INDIANA STATE USBC BOWLING ASSOCIATION

OF THE

UNITED STATES BOWLING CONGRESS

July 31, 2013

Fiscal Year Report of the 8th District Director

To the Council of Delegates:

Here are the activities I have been involved in for Fiscal Year August 1, 2012 through July 31, 2013

  • Aug 4
/ Held a GEUSBCA meeting, where I presided as president. We discussed holding a training session in September. Several topics were brought up, but we decided on goal setting and strategic planning. Too often, boards become “stagnant” and do not continue to move forward. The board wanted to include District 8. They think events like this are better with more participation.
  • Aug 6
/ I attended the GEUSBCA league workshop at Franklin Lanes. I reminded the league secretaries and presidents of the IS USBC BA tournaments, annual meeting, and scholarship program.
  • Sep8
/ I visited the Tell City Bowling Center, where I met with Carolyn Roberts, Proprietor. Ms. Roberts had her 17 year old grandson, Will Roberts, with her. She inquired as to what it takes to get information listed in the national youth magazine. I gave her George Lambert’s information. I feel sure George will be able to steer her in the right direction. Will wanted to know what it takes to become a “pro.” I told him to contact George as well.
Ms. Roberts gave me Youth State Tournament information on Will and his teammates, who placed 11th out of 115 entries. She also e-mailed me pictures.
I next visited Eastown Recreation in Jasper, where I met with Ed Wineigar, the center mechanic. He advised me that Jim Zehr is now the association manager.
My final stop was Huntingburg, where I met with the new proprietor, Donald Jenkins. He and his wife purchased Dubois Lanes effective August 1, 2012. They changed the name to Breakaway Lanes. Mr. Jenkins said he is looking for a youth coach.
  • Oct 14
/ Presided over the Greater Evansville USBC Association regular meeting. Discussed whether to continue with the “Organizational Development” training if the rest of District 8 did not participate. Consensus was to go ahead with the training.
  • Oct 18
/ I met with Randy Garrett, Princeton Association Manager and discussed District 8 participation. Randy, an IBA Life Member, gave me some insight and direction.
  • Oct 19
/ I attended the IS USBC BA meeting in Indianapolis.
  • Oct 20-21
/ I attended the IS USBC BA Jamboree in Indianapolis.
  • Nov 3
/ I attended the Greater Evansville USBC Association Hall of Fame Induction and Banquet. President Pat Webster and Past President Brian Nunning also attended and assisted with the ceremonies.
  • Nov 16
/ The Greater Evansville USBC Association had originally scheduled organizational development training for Sunday, September 30, 2012. They invited the District 8 Associations to participate. Due to conflicts, the training was rescheduled for November 16, 2012, Franklin Lanes. Education Coordinator Mike Kirkpatrick led the session. I was unable to be there, as I was in Florida and could not make it back in time.
  • Dec 5
/ I attended the high school youth bowling competition event at Diamond Lanes in Evansville.
  • Dec 8
/ I visited several of the centers in the district to make sure they had tournament entry forms.
  • Dec 9
/ I invited the Greater Evansville USBC Association board to my home for a regular meeting and Christmas party. We discussed District 8 hosting the 2013 Jamboree. I advised them that I scheduled the Holiday Inn North (formerly the Marriott) for the weekend of October 25-27, 2013. The facility was completely remodeled in the fall and is large enough to accommodate all Jamboree events.
  • Dec 11
/ I attended the high school youth bowling competition at River City Recreation in Evansville.
  • Dec 19
/ I attended the high school youth bowling competition at Posey Lanes, Mt. Vernon.
  • Jan 3
/ I attended the high school youth bowling competition at Willow Bowling Center in Evansville.
I left the competition and drove to Vincennes to deliver the trophies and jackets to Gary Sparks, Vincennes University. His team won the 2012 IS USBC BA Open Tournament. I would have delivered them sooner, but Gary told me not to since most of the team had already left. He said he would ship the trophies and jackets to them.
From Vincennes I went to Tell City where I met with Duane Poole, President, and Greg Sanders, Association Manager. I encouraged them to bowl in the open tournament and asked them to attend the District 8 meeting on January 12th in Vincennes.
  • Jan9
/ I attended the high school competition at AMF ARC Lanes in Evansville. I left early and drove to Jasper to meet with Jim Zehr, Association Manager.
  • Jan 12
/ Bob Daubenspeck, Association Manager, and the Vincennes USBC BA hosted a district meeting at Creole Lanes. There were seventeen (17) in attendance, with three associations represented – Daviess-Martin, Greater Evansville, and Vincennes. Past President Brian Nunning was also present.
We had a lot of interaction and discussion. Topics included the various state tournaments, our scholarships, annual meeting, and the upcoming Jamboree. Bob Daubenspeck offered to host future District 8 meetings.
  • Jan 19
/ I attended the IS USBC BA training meeting at Coopers Sport Bowl, Anderson.
  • Jan 20
/ Held a GEUSBCA meeting, where I presided as president. We discussed District 8 hosting the 2013 IS USBC BA Jamboree and the upcoming Greater Evansville USBCA Open and Women’s Tournaments.
  • Feb 3
/ Held a GEUSBCA meeting, where I presided as president.
  • Feb 9-10/
16-17/
23-24 / I worked the Greater Evansville USBCA Open and Women’s Tournaments. The tournaments are held simultaneously. This setup is both economical and efficient.
I bowled in the tournament(s) Saturday and Sunday, 23rd and 24th.
George Lambert, USBC Regional Representative, contacted me re a new USBC summer program. Using “MailChimp”, bowlers who had not bowled in summer leagues going back as much as ten years would be contacted and encouraged to bowl. George asked the GEUSBCA to participate. He visited all the centers promoting the program Saturday, 23rd through Monday, 25th. He also attended the Open and Women’s Tournaments. A special GEUSBCA meeting was called so George could explain the program to the association board.
  • Mar 2
/ I attended the IS USBC WBA Annual Meeting in Indianapolis as a Greater Evansville USBCA delegate. During a break, I met with Anneta Dawson, Davies-Martin Association. We discussed association activities.
  • Mar 17
/ Held a GEUSBCA meeting, where I presided as president. Agenda items: 2013 IS USBC BA Jamboree; the Greater Evansville USBCA Annual Meeting on April 21; Open and Women’s Tournaments results; George Lambert’s visit, and the IS USBC BA Annual Meeting.
  • Apr 6-7/
