Dear Union Board Director Applicant:

Thank you for your interest in becoming a director for the 2016 Indiana Memorial Union Board of Directors. In this packet you will find information regarding the election and selection process. Please pay close attention to this information, as the procedures must be strictly followed.

The Indiana Memorial Union Board (Union Board) is a student organization that exists to provide educational and entertaining programs that unify and enhance the IUB campus community. Union Board makes an enormous contribution to the experiences of students, faculty, staff, and guests of the IMU. Union Board is comprised of 20 voting members.

Part of Indiana University since 1909, Union Board has a rich heritage and by applying to be a director, you are taking a step in becoming an integral part of IU history. As a Union Board director, you will develop leadership, time management, and communication skills that will be used throughout your life. You will also have the opportunity to develop these skills in other students.

There are sixteen (16) student director positions on the Indiana Memorial Union Board. Those who apply for election will be candidates in a campus-wide student election, the top eight of which become elected Board directors. Eight additional directors are selected through an interview process. Applicants are eligible to apply through either the election or selection process, but are encouraged to apply for both. (Applying for both gives the applicant the best chances of becoming a director. In the chance that applicants are not elected, he/she will automatically be added to the selection interview pool.)

Requirements for all applicants are as follows:

  1. Full or part-time current student status in good academic standing with Indiana University-Bloomington (minimum cumulative IU GPA of 2.25) at the time of application
  2. Expected graduation date no earlier than December 2016
  3. Attend all mandatory scheduled meetings, retreats, and trainings listed in this application and outlined in the Union Board bylaws (i.e. scheduled by the Union Board president)
  4. Ability to attend Union Board of Directors meetings every Thursday evening (6-8pm) during fall and spring semesters.

Completed applications must submitted via email to by Friday, October 30 at 6pm and meet with an Election Board Commissioner or Advisor.

Letters of recommendation, though not mandatory, may be beneficial for your candidacy for the selection process. Letters may be included in the application packet or delivered directly to the Union Board office by the application deadline:
