Adult Basketball League Rules

I. Name

The organization will be known as the Indiana Area Recreation Men’s Basketball League.

II. Membership

Membership in this league shall be open to any team which can abide by the constitution and by-laws as well as any current rules and regulations adopted by the Recreation & Parks Commission.

III. Entry Fee

  1. Annual team entry fee shall be determined by the Recreation & Parks Commission.
  2. It shall be due on the day announced by the Indiana Area Recreation & Parks Commission.

C. Entry fees will be used for awards for winning the league, coordinators, officials & game balls. No refunds will be made.

D. All teams failing to pay their entry fee within the specified time (Statement B) will be dropped from the league.

IV. Forfeitures

A. The team entry fee shall be forfeited for:

1. Non-appearance at three (3) regularly scheduled games during the season.

2. Dropping out of the league and failing to complete the league schedule.

B. Any team which fails to comply with the rules and regulations shall be liable to expulsion from the league and in the event of such expulsion shall forfeit all money and fees deposited with the Indiana Area Recreation & Parks Commission.

C. All teams are responsible for the verbal and physical actions of their fans/players during the game and after the game. In case of fan involvement, the game can be forfeited.

D. Failing to appear on the court ready to play within five (5) minutes after the scheduled time will result in a game forfeit.

BY-LAWS

I. Membership & Eligibility

A. Team must be sponsored by groups, individuals, business or companies.

  1. Each player must sign the Team Roster & Waiver Form The Team Roster & Waiver Form must be signed and then turned into the Recreation & Parks Commission office on the announced date by the Indiana Area Recreation & Parks Commission

II. Equipment

A. The official game ball shall be provided by the Indiana Area Recreation & Parks Commission.

B. All players must be in full basketball uniforms consisting of basketball shoes and numbered jerseys.

C. Teams appearing for games without the proper uniforms will not be permitted to play, and the games will be recorded as a forfeit.

III. Referees

A. Two PIAA officials will be used at regularly scheduled league games and play-offs.

B. The officials have sole authority in conducting the game. The manager must make any questions on any call only, to the official NO EXCEPTIONS!

IV. Sportsmanship

A. If any player does not live up to the league rules or any of the rules in regard to the use of the courts, he may be suspended by the Indiana Area Recreation & Parks Commission for an indefinite period of time.

B. A player or manager who strikes or pushes referees or another player on or off the court will be suspended for at least a period of one (1) one year, effective the day of the offense to the corresponding day of the following year.

C. Abusive language, swearing, directed abusive language towards an official or recreation personnel, or any acts deemed degrading, detrimental, or out of normalcy will be just cause for a technical foul and/or eviction from the game and/or season without a refund.

F. Any player who causes damage to any of the Indiana Area School District or the Indiana Area Recreation & Parks Commission facilities will be suspended for at least a period of one (1) year and will pay the cost of the damage.

VI. Duties of the Indiana Area Recreation & Parks Commission

A. Maintain an up-to-date list of all eligible players in the league.

B. Indiana Recreation will provide a score/clock operator for each game. These individuals will also act as supervisors of the court and locker rooms before, during, and after all games.

C. Schedule all games and attempt to notify managers and officials in the event of postponements.

D. Officials shall be assigned or contracted by the Indiana Area Recreation & Parks Commission.

VII. Miscellaneous

A. All games will consist of two twenty minutes halves with a running clock (except for the last two minutes of the game) and a five (5) minute half-time break. Overtime period will be four (4) minutes each.

B. Any team leaving the court before the end of the game and who shall refuse to continue play after the referee shall order play resumed shall forfeit the game to the opposing team.

C. Five (5) minutes from starting time of the game will be permitted before a game will be forfeited. At that time the team in doubt must have five (5) men on the courts or a forfeit can be awarded at the manager’s discretion.

D. Any tobacco products are prohibited on school property. No food or drinks in the gym.

E. T-shirts for each player will be awarded to the champions.

F. Games will be played under the existing PIAA rules.

G. The team manager or player coach must submit a line-up card to the scorekeeper prior to the beginning of each game. This card should include the player’s first initial, last name and jersey number.
