Incredible Years® (IY) Basic Parent Programme- training in using the Home Visit Coaching Programme

This one day ‘add on’ training is for experienced IY Parent group leaders who:

  • have already attended the IY BASIC three-day training
  • have delivered at least two IY Parent groups

The training supports leaders to deliver the IY Toddler Parent Programme, BASIC Parent programme or the IY School Age Programme using a Home Visit Coaching model. The optimal way to deliver the IY Parent programmes is in a group-based format, however some parents are unable to access groups for a variety of reasons. These parents can receive the IY BASIC Parent programme from trained ‘home coaches’ using a ten session home coaching model. The training also provides a model for delivering a small number of home coaching sessions for parents who are attending groups but need some additional support to understand and effectively use the IY principles.

During the training, leaders will be given the opportunity to practice delivering the programme in role as a coach. Leaders will also experience the programme in role as a parent. Issues such as collaborating with, and empowering parents, dealing with resistance and setting up coaching sessions will be explored.

This programme is suitable to be used by professionals working with families with children in the 2-12 year range, who are hard to engage or dealing with complex issues.

The fee for the training will include materials to deliver the Home Coaching programme, which are designed to be used alongside the DVDs from either the IY Toddler, IY BASIC or IY School Age programme (DVDs are not supplied as part of this training). Please indicate on the registration form whether you would like the IY Todder, IY BASIC or IY School Age materials. Please note unless twelve people are registered to attend, this training will not be run.

Dr. Sue Evans has been a child psychologist for many years. She is a mentor in the IY Parent, Teacher and Classroom Dina programmes.
