ADVENT – NEW START – A NEW YEAR

Despite the merriment of shopping, carols, school plays, and bright lights, for many Christmas can be painful, isolated and an unloving time. So that is why our loving and caring Church offers us the lovely season of Advent. This season means more than preparing for Christmas. It starts each New Year for the Christian and our Church, a period of waiting and expectancy. It’s a joyful season (observed for the last 1500 years) starts in late November or early December, and leads us into Christmas in a four week season of preparation. Advent resets the clocks and calendars for Christmas – we move into another cycle of prayer, liturgy and scripture. Autumn ends, winter begins. Advent calls us to a new beginning. HAPPY ADVENT AND NEW YEAR.

WHATEVER HAPPENED TO KINDNESS?

Our world is troubled, our hearts and minds can be heavy and sad, and even our Parish can be troubled and anxious. As Advent begins, take a few prayerful moments to reflect on the following: Why do people go to the trouble to give other people some trouble? Why do they burst someone’s bubble when they know it comes back on the double? Why do we go to the effort to hurt someone we actually love? Why can’t we say something sweet ‘stead of curt? A push only leads to a shove. Why can’t we treat other people with respect? with a smile or a kind word or two? Treat them with honour, the way you’d expect they should act when they’re dealing with you. Why can’t we overlook others’ mistakes? We’ve all surely been there before. Love and forgiveness it all that it takes, to boot Satan’s butt out the door. One of the greatest gifts we can bring to Advent and another New Year in our Church is to practice random acts of kindness to those around us. Go ahead try it and bring kindness to the fore as we start another Advent.

REAL MEANING!

Children get your letters to Santa Claus now! One such letter went to him on Thursday last in the following way – Letter was written with list and address sought “Oh just “Santa Claus” will find him” said Mum. But Thomas was not satisfied with this ‘SANTA CLAUS, NORTH POLE, NEAR GOD. I think he was closer to the real meaning of Christmas, than perhaps he realized. Enjoy Santa Claus in the Marian Hall this Sunday afternoon. Excellent meal and celebrations at Senior Citizens Christmas Dinner last Sunday. Well done to all who organized such a wonderful celebration, and to Denis Doody & excellent staff. Gorgeous dinner.
