Press Release

Inauguration of the HEC European Institute,

chaired by Noëlle LENOIR,

former French European Affairs Minister

in the presence and under the patronage of Michel BARNIER

Mr. Michel BARNIER - French Minister for Foreign Affairs will inaugurate the HEC European Institute, on Tuesday 14th December 2004, in the presence of Mrs. Noëlle LENOIR - former French European Affairs Minister and HEC affiliate professor, Mr. Pierre SIMON - President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCIP), Mr. Bernard RAMANANTSOA - HEC School of Management Dean and Mr. Bertrand MOINGEON - Associate Dean for Executive Education and Director of the HEC European Institute.

Remain at the forefront of European construction

Faced with increasing needs for a better understanding of the stakes and European systems, HEC has decided to create the European Institution with the aim of strengthening its premier position in European academic excellence. HEC is already a founding member of the CEMS network (Community of European Management Schools), which brings together 17 leading business schools in Europe.

The European Institute will go further from training in management and economy by leading a reflection of various aspects of European Politics. According to Michel Barnier “HEC is a leading management school in France, recognized worldwide and I am pleased that through the new European Institute brought together by Noëlle Lenoir, HEC develops a privileged place of training and of debate which all determines our destiny in Europe.”

Primary challenges and issues of the HEC European Institute will notably be linked to the enlargement of the European Union and to transatlantic relations.

Place of training, of exchanges and of reflection

The Institute offer of training is aimed, not only at HEC students who will be the leaders of tomorrow (and already have a dedicated program during the third year of the specialist management training “Europe specialization”), but also at the decision-makers of today. Every year, HEC Executive Education welcomes more than 8500 experienced managers and executives who represent sixty nationalities.

From 2005, these decision-makers will be able to participate in seminars on “Europe at work” offered by the Institute.

All other activities of the Institute are also internationally focused, including “Meetings of Europe” with European leaders, and the yearly session of reflection “Rethinking Europe” in partnership with universities and research centers all over the world.

Noëlle Lenoir, former Minister for European Affairs, former member of the Conseil Constitutionnel, visiting Professor at Columbia and conference speaker at many other overseas universities (amongst which Yale), HEC affiliate professor, is the President of the European Institute.

Bertrand Moingeon, Professor of Strategic Management and Associate Dean for Executive Education at HEC School of Management is the Director of the European Institute.
