Materials
printed or drawn reference pictures of various places and sites in China, such as the Great Wall, the city of Beijing, pandas, etc.
various art materials: markers, crayons, colored pencils
trade books about China
Internet access
scissors
glue
white tag board, cut into postcards or any size index cards
postcard samples
chart
chart paper
marker
Procedure
Pretend that you are on a trip to China and that youwill make and "send" a postcard from and about China to a friend or relative. Look at sample postcards, charting what is on them, planning out a postcard with the planning paper, correctly organizing and creating the postcard.
Chart the information (pictures of sites, a personal message, a signature, a name and address, a stamp) included on the sample postcards. When making your postcard, you should include a picture of an important place in China on one side and a personal signed message and address of a friend on the other side. A general guide for the personal message could be: 2 or 3 facts about the picture of the important place. You should use the planning paper or graphic organizer to outline and plan the place you want to highlight in your postcard.
You can share or "mail" your postcards with or to each other. I will set up a classroom "mailbox". I will display postcards on a bulletin board.
