BERRIGAN SHOW

The 2006 Berrigan Show saw a large contingent of Victorian jumping riders head to the popular border town. Gary Baxter of Shepparton designed the courses on a well watered arena for this proactive show who provide free camping, stables, stable bedding and a BBQ for competitors and owners alike.

Frank Reynolds of Albury won the 90cm class riding Windy, Kate Baxter of Shepparton won the junior class riding Gumbareh, Edwina Hare of Deniliquin won the G grade riding Summer Boy and Michael Lucas of Tumut won the 1.25cm class. Des Gleeson of Gerogery continued his super form by winning the C and D grade championship riding Goodnight Kiss and then went on to take out the A and B grade Grand Prix riding Yoorooga. Gleeson’s horse Mingara Gamble was the champion jumping horse of the show.

DRESSAGE IN SHEPPARTON

The Goulburn Valley Equestrian Club held its popular EFA Spring Dressage Competition on Sunday (8th October) at the well equiped WB Hunter Reserve.

Strong Southerly winds did not deter the enthusiastic competitiors. Nadine O'Sullivan of Myrtleford won the preliminary 1.3 and the preliminary 1.2 tests riding her homebred Rimini Park Valentyno. Rob Clay of Cranbourne South riding Grand Proposal competed successfully to win the elementary 3.3 test and place second in the elementary 3.2 and then won the Lighthearted memorial trophy donated by Trudi Rogers of Numerkah in memory of her former competition mare Light Hearted. Maree Cochrane of Shepparton riding Humphry won the novice 2.2 test, Holly Parker of Lavington riding Simity Sam won both medium tests. The club was extremely grateful for the very high standard of judging provided by the judges traveling from all over Victoria.

SPRING SHOWJUMPING FESTIVAL

The Northern Victorian Showjumping Club will hold its Spring Showjumping Festival in Shepparton this weekend. (14th and 15th October). Showjumping classes will cater for all levels of riders and horses with height classes starting at 70cm and finishing with a Grand Prix championship. The club will run two competition arenas using their sand and World Cup grassed arena.

ALEXANDER CLIMBES UP THE LADDER

Leading Australian jumping rider Edwina Alexander of Glossodia, who, last month finished 4th in the World Show Jumping Championships in Germany, has this month moved to number 25 on the World Jumping Riders rankings. Edwina is number 25 in the world on the FEI world rankings released on Sunday moving up from number 27 last month.

German rider Marcus Ehning is still ranked number one followed by Sweden’s Rolf-Goran Bengtsson and Jessica Kurten of Ireland. James paterson- Robinson of Geelong is the next best ranked Australian rider in 267th position, Paul Athanasoff of Dungog is in 356th position, WA rider David Dobson is 402nd , Queenslander Adam Mellers is in 403rd position followed by Rod Brown of Kulnura 438th, Vicki Roycroft of Mt White 448th, Paula Hamood of Queensland is 451st and Peter McMahon of Waterford is 464th . Victorian Harley Brown of Montrose who is currently based in the USA is in 566th position.

2006 world champion jumping rider Jos Lansink of Belgium is ranked number 27.
