SOUTH ASIAN OFFENDER ENGAGEMENT WORKER

Grade:£22,937-£25,440 (NJC Scale 6+ 1 point)

Hours:37 per week

Holidays:28 days per annum rising to 31 days after 2 years service plus [8] statutory holidays

Responsible to:Shafa Project Development Manager

Based:Touchstone based – to be confirmed but frequent travel across West Yorkshire (Leeds, Wakefield, Kirklees, Calderdale and Bradford)

1PURPOSE OF THE JOB

To engageservice users from the South Asian population, who have offended and provide effective support to reduce the risk of people reoffending throughimplementing appropriate interventions, to change offending behaviours through group and one to one interventions.

SERVICE PROVISION

1.1To develop and deliverto groups, modules to address the criminogenic needs of offenders from the South Asian population, with specific consideration of cultural issues. To be delivered from National Probation Service sites across West Yorkshire.

1.2To deliver one to one outreach work for service users who are at high risk of re-offending or have offences associated with domestic violence.

1.3To be a point of contact for the probation officer to consult them regarding community issues, concerns and non attendance.

1.4To carry out prison visits where necessary relating to South Asian offenders.

1.5To attend MAPPA meetings where appropriate for high risk offenders.

1.6To effectively engage and develop relationships with service usersand support them to actively engage in positive life choices. This will include help in accessing local community resources, accessing education, training and employment, housing, improving relationships with family and attending appointments where culture may have an impact on compliance.

1.7To develop and maintain positive working relationships with Responsible Officers from 3SC, CRC and NPS. To help develop and maintain robust referring in and feedback reporting strategies, using the secure Case Management System for CRC/NPS.

1.8To identify the potential for existing service users to volunteer and become peermentors and to implement a peer support framework.

1.9To provide evidence of quality of work and to support the service manager in evaluating, tracking and reporting data.

1.10To provide religious and cultural support to service users through appropriate resources, faith groups, Imam’s and Mosques’, temples etc.

1.11To work with service users and their families to ensure relationships are maintained and to use mediation and support to tackle stigma and issues of ostracising and reprisal.

1.12To maintain reporting and monitoring systems in line with service and organisational requirements and provide reports as requestedby the Shafa Project Development Manager.

1.13To support 3 way meetings between Responsible Officer and Service User.

1.14To provide guidance, support and advice to Responsible Officers on cultural issues, when requested, to assist RO in securing compliance and managing risk with South Asian service users.

1.15To record outcomes of Group work and one to one contact on the Case Management System within 24 hours of service user contact.

1.16To support other agencies in the provision of services to the client group.

2 GENERAL

2.1.To work unsupervised or as part of a team where required. This includes working with other staff in Touchstone, attending team and staff meetings.

2.2.To maintain records as required by Touchstone.

2.3.To work flexibly in accordance with the needs of the Service, including undertaking out of hours and weekend work as required.

2.4To guide and supportPeer Mentors in group delivery sessions.

2.5To supervise volunteers, students, work placements on a daily basis, including supporting them to carry out tasks

2.6To be inducted, supervised, performance monitored and appraised in line with the organisation’s performance management policies and procedures.

2.7.To be responsible for personal learning and development where appropriate and undertake training, both mandatory and optional, to increase knowledge, skills and awareness

2.8.To provide monitoring information and reports as part of funding and organisational requirements and for the Board of Trustees as requested by Touchstone management.

2.9.To participate in the further development of the service and organisation in conjunction with the Team Manager and Senior Management Team, as requested.

2.10.To be aware of and employ the general practices of Touchstone’s Health and Safety policy and adhere to the policies and procedures of the CRC/NPS.

2.11.To operate within the aims, policies and practices of Touchstone at all times and to be committed to and promote the organisation’s Equal Opportunities and Anti-Discriminatory policies.

2.12.To ensure information is dealt with in accordance with Touchstone’s and the CRC/NPS policies around Confidentiality, Communications, Internet, Email and Telecommunications and steps are taken to ensure that confidential information is secure e.g. service user data.

2.13.To provide information about Touchstoneas a whole to people/agencies interested in the organisation’s work.

2.14To undertake any other duties as directed by the Team Manager, in line with the responsibilities of this post.
