Revolutionary War Play

OLGS Grade 5, 2010

In collaboration with your Library research about a Revolutionary War hero, you will be writing a play that includes the following elements:

·  One character (your chosen Revolutionary War person)

·  At least one act or scene

·  Setting

·  Dialogue, and

·  Stage directions.

You will be given ample time to work on your play during Writer’s Workshop and Library, so use this time wisely and be productive. Your play will be completed individually and will include your main character only. You may include other characters in you play but they will only be referenced or imaginary. No other classmates or persons are to physically participate in your play! Your play must reference an event that led up to the American Revolutionary War, one that we studied in class or any other event.

To help get you started, you will complete the graphic organizer to identify your setting: time and place, character(s) and problem. After this graphic organizer is approved by your teacher, you may then begin writing your play which must include the 5 elements bulleted above.

At completion of writing your play, you will perform your single character play in front of the class. You may dress up as your character to make your play more authentic and to represent the Revolutionary War time period. Below is a timeline to assist you in managing your time efficiently.
