In Brief: Chumash to hold annual pow-wow

Santa Ynez:A weekend of Native American dancing, singing, and drumming will be hosted by the Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians at the Live Oak Campground in Santa Ynez.

The 17th annual Chumash Inter-Tribal Pow-Wow will be at 10 a.m.-10 p.m. on October 6 and 10 a.m.-6 p.m. on October 7.

At noon on Saturday, a gourd dance will kick off the pow-wow, and a grand entry will follow at noon on Sunday.

Dancing and drumming competitions, with categories including traditional, straight, fancy and grass dancing, will be held. $45,000 worth of prizes will be awarded.

There will also be Native American food and craft booths.

The campground location is 4650 Highway 154, Santa Ynez. Admission is free, with $5 parking and $25 camping fee.
