SATURDAY NETBALL
PROCEDURE
GUIDELINES
In accordance with Ministry of Education Guidelines all coaches will be Police Vetted at the beginning of the season.
1.Teams will be selected by trials, and prior knowledge of coaches taken into consideration, to take part in the Netball Hutt Valley (NHV) competition. The selectors will be neutral, and have prior experience in a trial process. Selections are final and not open for discussion.
2.All teams are graded on ability. The top two Year 7 and Year 8 teams remain separate cohort teams for the purposes of Intermediate schools’ tournaments. The consequent teams are also ability based, but may have a composite combination of Year 7 and Year 8.
3.A Netball Co-ordinator is appointed each year by the School. The co-ordinator:
3.1hosts a pre-season parent information evening
3.2calls the pre-season coach/manager meeting
3.3appoints coaches/managers from those offering at the above meetings
3.4organises/supports coaches
3.5organises correct numbers of umpires as required by NHV
3.6 ensures all involved in netball have a copy of this procedure and understand
theirroles
3.7 calls for nominations for the Mediation Committee (see guideline 7)
3.8 is the first point of contact away from the courts for any issues
4.Coaches: are appointed on a volunteer basis and may be parents, staff members, college students, MIS students,or interested supporters. Coaches are expected to:
4.1 take overall responsibility for the team
4.2 hold regular training sessions for their team
4.3 regularly attend Saturday morning games or appoint a manager who will do so
4.4 be familiar with the NHV Code of Conduct for coaches, players, parents and
spectators
4.5 where a manager is appointed, maintain clear lines of communication
4.6 deal with disputes at the courts through NHV on the day
4.7 ensure sufficient game time for each team member
4.8 responsibility for gear issued to the team
5.Managers: coaches may choose to appoint a manager for the team for general assistance in organisation. This many include responsibility for the team during Saturday games in their absence. The coach retains overall responsibility while coming to an agreement with the manager as to delegated duties. Manager responsibilities include:
5.1 responsibility for the team on Saturdays in the absence of the coach
5.2 ensuring the team knows match times, the draw and duties
5.3 selecting player of the day (in consultation with the coach if present)
6.Teams will only be entered if supported by parents, who are expected to:
6.1 pay the required fees for registration, and maintain the upkeep of uniform and
equipment
6.2be familiar with, and observe, the NHV Code of Conduct for parents, players, spectators and coaches, particularly: ‘Recognise the value and importance of volunteer coaches and umpires. They give their time and resources to provide recreational activities for the children and deserve your support.’
6.3 abide by the MIS Saturday Netball policy
6.4 take responsibility for equipment issued - dresses/bibs
6.5 get their children to and from games on Saturdays, or organise alternative transport if required
6.6 provide a scorekeeper or score monitor, for half of each game
6.7 support fundraising efforts of NHV
6.8 supply an umpire if required/or contribute towards the fee to pay for one
7.Where issues arise that do not constitute a dispute as outlined in the NHV handbook, and reasonable discussion with the coach/manager has not produced a resolution, the issue must be taken to the Netball Co-ordinator who will settle the matter according to policy.
7.1 In the event of an issue falling outside these policy guidelines, an ad hoc Mediation Committee: made up of the Netball Co-ordinator, 4 coaches (Year 7 and 8; A and B teams) and a representative of NHV shall meet to resolve the issue.
7.2This committee shall be nominated at the beginning of the season from voluntary coaches, managers and/or parents.
8.Players must abide by thesix school values of Teamwork, Respect, Responsibility, Manaakitanga, Courage and Integrity; while representing the School; as well as the Code of Conduct for players from NHV.
9. All those working with the players must maintain appropriate language and behaviour at all times, and do their best to ensure that the players behave appropriately as well.
