1) The first section of The Proposed Research should be an ABSTRACT of no more than one
double-spaced typewritten page. The abstract should present the rationale of the research, its
scientific objective, and an estimate of the significance to the field of research if the objective is
reached.
2) The body of the proposal should enlarge upon the salient points presented in the Abstract. In
addition, it should provide a brief survey of pertinent literature, a section on the plan of attack on theproblem, and any non-scientific matters which require explanation, for example, plans for access tospecialized equipment, justification for special budgetary requests, etc.
3) The proposal should be as concise as is consistent with an adequate presentation and justification of theresearch idea. The body of the proposal (including the abstract but excluding references, budget, vitae, and form pages) may not exceed 4000 words; include a word count at the end of the narrative section.
4) The proposal must be typed with 1" margins; 0.5" margins are acceptable around specialized graphics/charts. The abstract, narrative, and references must be typed in one of the following fonts: Arial 11 or Times New Roman 12.
5) The budget should be detailed using the next page and attached as the last page of the proposal.
Do not include Facilities and Administration (F&A, "Indirect") costs in your budget. Although UNL requires most grants (to NSF, NIH, DoE, DoD, etc.) to include F&A costs, they are not required for submissions to ACS PRF and some other nonprofits.
PROPOSED BUDGET: $55,000/year for up to three years. Although some budget flexibility can be allowed, with prior approval, after a grant has been awarded, an outline of the projected use of the funds being requested will aid in the evaluation of the proposal. Shifts in budget category allocations, consistent with the terms and conditions outlined on page v, and time extensions without the commitment of additional funds may be arranged with prior approval. Funds not expended in one budget year may be carried forward into the next in the same category. Do not add any categories to this budget page; the listed categories are the only expenditures approved.
