Importing Questions from the Question Library to Build a Quiz
This tutorial will show 1 of 2 methods that can be used to create a quiz in D2L
First: If you have questions loaded into the question library, this tutorial will illustrate how to import questions and create a randomized quiz. Remember, this tutorial is for those who already have their questions loaded into the Question LibraryBefore viewing this tutorial, it is suggested that you view the tutorial on “Exploring the Question Library”.
Creating a Quiz from the Question Library
To get started, select Quizzes from the course navigation bar, making sure you are in the manage quizzes area.
First, click NEW QUIZ, notice you are on the properties tab, provide a name for the quiz and designate a category if preferred. Some users decide to use categories to manage their quizzes, but this really depends on the structure of your course. If you do not use categories, the system will automatically set up categories called Past Quizzes and Current Quizzes.
Next, choose the Add / Edit Questions tab. This tutorial is going to show how to build your quiz from questions already residing in the question library. We are going to create a “random section” so we can pull a set number of questions from a pool of questions. Enter a title (random section), SAVE.
Select the random 1 folder; and IMPORT. We are going to choose the CH 1 Question library section where the questions are locate. I am going to choose CH 1 and then the questions to be added. The questions will be added to the list and used to create the random section.
This is a random section. Select the number of questions to be selected randomly from the list and the points each question will be worth. SAVE. Done editing questions
I am going to indicate that I want 5 questions to be displayed on each page.
I know have an Assessment set up with 10 questions being pulled randomly from 20. Save and Close
It is possible to import question from another section using the same procedure. This might be useful when creating a Final exam, which might include questions from many sections. Show process
Our quiz is now set to be randomized, 10 questions each being pulled from CH 1 section.
Using the Quiz Questions option will add a level of security if you display only a limited number of questions per page, When Questions per page is used, this parameter will control how many questions are placed on a page for presentation purposes; otherwise the entire quiz will appear on the same page.
When the paging option is enabled, users taking the quiz will only be able to move forward through pages. They will not be allowed to move to a previous page once they have left it.

The next step is to set restrictions and make the quiz active
The Restrictions tab offers various options. First, make the status active. If a start and end date are set, students cannot enter the quiz; even if it is set to active. Be sure to select Display in Calendar in order for the student to see the date and time set for the Quiz
Additional Release conditions may be used, with many conditions that can be set and required in order for a student to take a test.
The time limit is also set on this page. Enter the time limit (being sure to select both enforced and show clock), To enable auto-submission you must also select "enforced".
Under late submissions, most users select the auto submit button.
Auto-Submit Attempt- This will insure that
After the time limit and grace period expire, the quiz does not complete any action that users try to perform, but prompts them to submit their quiz attempt. If users take no action, the quiz shows the attempt as 'attempt in progress' in the quiz grading area.

The final step is to associate a grade item with the quiz. The assessment tab is used to select or create a grade item for your quiz.A preferred method is to have your gradebook set up prior to creating the quiz and then select the grade. However, it is possible to add a grade item from this page. Be sure to have the allow automatic export to grades set, as well as allow attempt to be graded immediately upon completion.
Select the number of attempts allowed, and the overall grade calculation if more than 1 attempt is provided.
