Hello XC family- Great start to the 2015 season! Our runners are amazing and are working very hard to be the fastest, strongest runner they can be! I am so impressed with the work ethic and enthusiasm I have seen…I love your kids!!! I am so excited for this season to begin! WE will be unstoppable! To make things run smooth, please make sure you respond to the requests below and mark our parent meeting on your calendar. I need a family representative in attendance for each runner…. this is mandatory. Thank you for your help and passion for XC!
Coach Dalfrey
706-616-3772,
Important XC info that needs attention now:
1. New move-in to district and attending Heath? You must complete the attached PAPF, answering only the parent portions. I need these completed with former school contact information a.s.a.p. so your runner can be approved for competition. I will take care of my signature and the new school administrator signatures. Please read this carefully. On some numbers, if you have any “yes” marks you must attached a letter of explanation. If you are confused please contact Shelia Higbee in the athletic office, or (469)698-2650.
- This does not include Freshman coming from Middle School feeders that are zoned for Heath. You are fine to play because you have always been in our zone.
- This is for runners who have moved into RHHS zone from another school and wish to participate in athletics.
2. Parent/Team Meeting- August 27, Thursday, 6:30 pm. This is a mandatory meeting for EVERY runner and parent! We will meet in the cafeteria at RHHS after our practice that ends at 6pm. We will discuss very important information about the season so please make all efforts to be in attendance.
3. First meet August 22, Saturday. (before school has even started!) Meet at front steps of RHHS at 5:15am. It is an early running meet so we have check-in at 6:30am in Frisco, but this means we will be home before noon! We may stop for food so bring personal eating money for an early lunch. Go to my website and click on August 22nd to download the meet informational flyer or see packet I sent home wit runner. I need notification now if your child will not be in attendance.
4. Spirit wear fee. $50 per runner is due before our first meet. Checks payable to RHHS Booster Organization or HBO. This enables your runner to be able to keep their season gear forever. We will wear our shirts to each meet and the hoodies help as we transition to Fall. I have the shirts already to distribute and hoodies will be ordered as we get money in our account. If you have financial restraints please contact me and we can work out a payment plan. I want every runner to have team gear…sometimes good gear can create a feeling of belonging and inspiration!!
5. XC Booster Club formation. I will need a slate of officers to help run our booster club. I need organized, motivated XC parents to help me build this program. If you are interested please contact me with your full name, contact information and what office you wish to hold. You will receive training and have the full support of the RHHS Booster organization. These positions can include what you want but I listed a brief idea of what the expectation is per position. Offices I need filled…
- President- help guide our organization to achieve team goals. Handle booster issues as they arise. Be liason with RHHS athletic booster leadership.
- Vice President- aid president, possibly a parent of young runner who can receive training and move to president as opening occurs in future….
- Treasurer- Handle booster deposits/withdrawals and provide complete accounting transparency to leadership at district level. You have your own binder to be passed down J
- Secretary- assist coach in team communication. Create a team email/text group for parent contact. Make sure all team members are aware of all goals, fundraisers, commitments.
6. Runner health and well being- as we transition to after school practice August 24, your runner will face the heat! Please make sure they are eating right, drinking water day in and day out, dressed for heat in wicking material, have good shoes and that they are sleeping 8+ hours a night. They have worked hard and have been very sore as we “awaken” some muscle groups that have been dormant. I have worked hard at conditioning the “whole” athlete as well as running 5+ miles a practice. Weekends are for recovery so please encourage that rest time. We will increase mileage as we progress so these habits will help prevent injury and mental burnout.
7. Academic success in 2015-16. After school practice is purposefully set at 4:30-6pm so as to allow your child to be able to attend before or after school tutorials. Academics are our top priority! If your child has a challenging schedule for the upcoming semester please plan as a family how your runner will balance the demands of the coming year. Texas is a no pass, no play state so if your runner fails a course they will NOT run or practice with us until eligibility is regained. We do not have a XC class period so I have suggested girls enroll in the 1st period track class and boys enroll in a conditioning class. I will work with those instructors to create XC friendly workouts during our season. Second semester I encourage your child to run track. I will be the distance coach for track so it will be a great opportunity to maintain their fitness level year around.
8. Finally, Practice is not an option, they must attend practice every day it is held or they will not participate in the meets. We are a team of individuals, but a team still. To be part of a team you must participate in the team building and work we do together. No runner, no matter how talented, is exempt from this requirement. We want to win, but more importantly, we want to be incredible, well rounded people who happen to run! Practice builds the body and builds character. Of course if a runner is injured and deemed by the trainer/doctor unable to practice then they are excused. Please notify the coach as soon as you know a runner will be absent from a practice or meet. No shows without notification and/or having a legitimate excuse to miss will be an unexcused absence which will have consequences….just like in any other sport.
As always, call, text or email me with any issue, concern or information regarding your runner. I am here to serve you! Saying that, I cannot read minds and your child most likely did not tell me what you told them to tell or ask me J. Please do not hesitate to contact me and be candid. Also, realize I teach 6 classes, have a family, serve in my church and community and pursue hobbies of my own so my time is very tight. I will do everything in my power to make XC amazing and successful, but I need your help to make it happen. Thank you for all you have done already! I appreciate every runner and their family.
This season will be awesome!
