Important TIPS for ACTIVboardDukane DPS4 Projection

System Training

(Revised August 2010)

Computer Workstation for ACTIVboard

If using a USB connection w/laptop, PC, or MAC: Must plug the USB cable into the exact same USBPort on computer. Board will not communicate with computer if different port is used.

If you are using the energy saver or sleep mode options on your computer, their settings will have to be changed to NEVER. (You can still activate your Screen Saver from your activated corners when needed).

For the PC turn off the hibernate function. Go to Control Panel, “Display”, “Power Option Properties”, “Hibernate” tab.

With the purchase of each board, you have a license to install the software on six computers. (You can install it on your computer at home and create flipcharts, etc. that you can import into your individual folder. Email the lessons to your school computer or save on a jump drive.)

Make sure that the Main toolbar does not disappear and only show dotted lines when moving. 1) Right click on desktop 2) Click “Properties” 3) Appearance Tab 4) Effects Tab (lower right corner) 5) Check : Show windows contents when moving

Master Remote Panel/Pronto

You can keep the remote stored in the cradle when not in use but do not push it in all the way to make the blue lights glow. The Remote charges when the blue lights are activated. The main screen on the remote will display an image of a battery similar to a cell phone. Only charge the remote when the bars run low on the battery image. Over charging can cause the remote to over heat and possibly burn out the LCD screen or system programming.

Keep silica gel packets in box for storage of Pronto to prevent damage due to humidity. Store in a controlled environment.

Touching the screen activates the remote.

If the option you want is not on the current screen, then press the Home key.

If your remote does not respond, try turning the lights on dim or off. (In some locations the signal from the fluorescent lights interferes with the remote signal).

If the remote freezes, you can remove the back and use a straightened paperclip to press the small reset button located in the center. (Don’t try reset button if you think it is not charged).

This remote controls the volume of the speakers (see icons on the right side; actually engraved on the metal)

To get the remote to stay on longer, press the icon that looks like the remote for 3 seconds. Choose settings & back lit time out. Of the four middle buttons located just at the base of the screen, use the two middle ones to increase or decrease the time it stays on. To get out of this mode, press the same icon for 3 more seconds.

Projector

The projector filter must be cleaned every 100 hours of service. A warning will appear on the screen when this point has been reached. When the clean filter message appears, report it to the appropriate staff in your building or complete a technology work order and submit it to Wesley Waddle.

Point the remote toward the sensor on the projector to turn on or off.

Turn the projector off when not using. Must click the “off” icon on the Master Remote/Pronto twice to turn off projector. Be sure to set the “auto off” option in the projector menu to 15 minutes to preserve bulb life. (see steps below)

The bulb lasts between 2,000 and 3,000 hours.

Power down (turn off) the projector during any non-use period such as a planning period or lunch and as soon as possible at the end of the school day.

The projector will go into hibernate mode if your computer monitor hibernates. The projector will go black like the computer screen and seem to be off. This is not the case. The projector is still on and the bulb is on – just projecting black. You can tell if the projector is on because the lens will glow a slight purple light. You must wake up the computer monitor to get out of this mode. DO NOT TURN THE PROJECTOR OFF WITH THE ON/OFF SWITCH ON THE PROJECTOR UNIT OR BY UNPLUGGING THE PROJECTOR. The bulb will blow if the unit is turned off while hot. You must power down the projector with the master remote or projector remote this allows the fan to run until the bulb is cool before it shuts the unit off. Must click the “off” icon on the Master Remote/Pronto or projector remote twice to turn off projector. The bulb is not covered beyond the 90 day warranty period if this happens.

The 8755D projector can be set to turn itself "off" when there is no input signal for a period of time by setting an internal timer. The available time period is 1 to 99 minutes. The "AUTO OFF" option is set by default at "0" which means the timer is not operating. It can be activated by going to the projector's menu and setting a time. Page 38 from the manual shows the menu location and the function. The AUTO OFF is in the middle of the page. Once a projector turns "off", the teacher needs to be aware that the projector will complete a cool down cycle before it can be restarted. Should there be any questions the Dukane Service Dept is always ready to assist at1-800-676-2487.

Directions for setting projector Auto Off to 15 minutess (model 8755D)

Turn Projector on using Pronto (Master remote); 2) While on the projector on/off screen press projector details (located at the bottom left of the screen); 3) Press Menu: If the EASY menu opens use the down arrow key until you reach Go To ADVANCED Menu; 4) Press Enter; 5) Arrow down until you reach OPTION: Now use right arrow until you are positioned on AUTO off. Press Enter. 6) Use the up arrow key until you reach 15 mins. 7) You have now set your projector to automatically shut off after 15 mins of non-use!

If your projector is out of focus, you have to correct this by turning the focus lense on the projector. (You cannot use the remote to do this).

DO NOT choose (Reset) from the projector menu to correct a problem. This will cause all settings to go back to factory defaults. The projected image will flip and the side keystone adjustment will be out of alignment. (Call Dukane Support at 800-676-2487 for help with resetting the projector settings if needed)

ACTIVboard

Clean board with mild solution of dishwashing liquid on a damp cloth; Hand wipes, soft cloth, etc. (No alcohol or ammonia based cleaners).

If someone accidentally writes on it with a dry erase marker, clean it off ASAP using one of the above suggestions.

Unplug the ACTIVBoard during extended breaks, such as fall, Christmas, spring, and summer breaks.

Anything magnetic near the board or ACTIVslate can affect the way it works (watches with magnetic bands, magnetic bracelets used for arthritis…).

ACTIVboard Pen

Hold pen above the orange line.

It requires no batteries because it uses a sensor.

Store the pen with the orange end down. Not on the nib (or tip) of the pen; The pen performs the same function as a mouse; The pen nib is the same as a left click; Pressing the barrel button down and holding close to the board is the same as a right click, and it activates menu commands, such as, copy; paste, etc.

Check pens. If your pen wears out within a short period of use, or if the nib mysteriously disappears, submit the problem to Promethean at:

1. (click on USA). Choose the SUPPORT tab. Submit completed on-line form to Promethean. Request that someone contact you ASAP to troubleshoot and send replacement pens ASAP, if needed. You will need to know ACTIVboard serial number and date of installation prior to completing form.

2.Promethean will probably require that you ship the defective pen to the following address:

Promethean Inc.

1165 Sanctuary Parkway, Suite 400

Alpharetta, GA30004

ATTN: Tech Support

Toll free # 888-652-2848

3.Contact Debra Smsith at after filling out on-line Technical Support form. Provide details. I will follow up with Promethean to make sure the replacement pens are being sent.

If a pen is stolen, damaged or not working after the (1) yr ACTIVpen warranty period,, submit a Purchase Order to SWC for a replacement ACTIVpen3 . Contact Debra Smith for current pricing.

When you receive your new pen, let it hover next to the surface of the ACTIVboard or ACTIVslate for about 15 seconds to acclimate the sensor. Do this each time before using the pen especially if interchanging and using different pens.

Only one pen at a time is to be used to annotate or move objects on the board. Two people cannot use the board at the same time. They can if they take turns and use the same pen. Do not store pen near magnets.

ACTIVslate

If the slate starts automatically launching other windows, etc. that you are not prompting it to do, it could be the result of an AirPort Base (used for wireless internet) in the building interfering with the slate signal. The AirPort Base channel will need to be changed. Contact your district technology coordinator for help with this matter.

See the Training Manual Pg 29 - 30 to view steps to register an ACTIVslate.

Charge ACTIVslate only when battery bar is low (Located in menu window in top right area of the ACTIVslate). Over charging can result in overheating of the ACTIVslate sensor and causing the Slate to not work. Do not charge unit for a period longer than (1) overnight.

Amplifier

If there is a humming sound coming from your speakers when you have the amplifier turned on, this can usually be corrected by purchasing a two prong adapter that fits on the end of your three prong amplifier plug that goes into the power strip.

Dukane 220SP Document Camera

If using a transparency, turn off the lamp and put a piece of white paper underneath it to prevent glare.

USB cord from document camera to computer must be connected in same port to download images.

To capture images from Document Camera to ACTIVstudio2 resources or flipchart:

1.Use Master Remote Control Panel or turn on document camera by pushing the button on button on the front base of the document camera to turn camera and bulb “on”. Go to “Watch Document Camera”.

2.Use the document camera remote or Master Remote Panel to access the menu to adjust brightness or contrast as needed for a clear view and proper sizing of object to be captured. Adjust the focus by turning the round dial that is located underneath the document camera lens arm. It is best to zoom by pushing down on the head of the document camera lens.

3.Use master remote control to change view back to “Watch Computer”.

4.Have ACTIVStudio or ACTIVInspire software open and make sure a blank flipchart page is open .

5.Use AV button (Flipchart button) on Main ACTIVStudio or ACTIVInspire toolbar to toggle onto computer desktop view.
