The Police are working very closely with our local schools. Each month we will be publishing a ‘reminder’ notice to our Community from them.

Truancy

Truancy is not condoned at any school and it is law that if your child is 6-16 years they must be enrolled in a school and attend on a regular basis. Parents are not to condone truancy and let their children stay at home when they are not sick or have a good reason. For every day that your child is not at school with a reasonable excuse you can be prosecuted at $30.00 per day they are absent. If you are on a WINZ benefit, this can also be affected, as you are not adhering to your social responsibilities.

Safety At The School Gate

Before and after school is a busy time for everyone. Therefore, if you drop your children off at school in the morning and/or pick them up after school you need to adhere to the parking rules to help protect your children. If you park illegally, even for a few minutes, you put children at risk of being injured and you may receive a fine. If you drop your children off make sure they use the pedestrian crossing or school road patrol to cross the road to school. If you get out please set an example and use the crossing yourself.

2016 SCHOOL TRUSTEE ELECTIONS

The School Trustee Elections are this year, and we need you to get involved.

A democratically elected group of people called the Board of Trustees governs our school. These trustees make important decisions about our school’s strategic direction, student achievement outcomes, resources, staffing and much more.

Being a trustee is an important and rewarding role. Parents, families, whanau and people from the wider community can all be trustees. We are looking for a range of people with a variety of skills, experiences and attributes who believe in making a positive difference to our children’s learning.

Election Day is Thursday 9th June.

An experienced Returning Officer has been appointed. Her name is Bernardine Vester from Education Plus.

Room10 – Make a Difference!!

Make a difference!! That’s our class motto. We want to make a difference to our learning, to our school, to our community and to our world!

We’ve had a very busy start to 2016. We have a collaborative learning approach where Mr Mackwood encourages us to work in pairs and groups. We often research topics as a group but then complete individual reports. We’ve done this during writing, maths, health, social studies and inquiry lessons so far!

In maths, we’ve been practicing with Room 14 for the upcoming Mathex competition. This involves groups answering 10 questions as well as running around a course. It is very tiring but great fun!

Our class leaders are Lauren and Leilani. They hold weekly class meetings to get our views on school issues. They take these ideas back to their meetings and room 10 is helping to make a difference to the school!

Our spec groups this term have just completed music, art and performing arts. We love having the chance to experience new lessons and meet the cool teachers!
