RECITAL SURVIVAL TIPS
COSTUME(S). Take the costume out of the bag and try it on again at home. Let us know about any problems. Hang Ballet costumes up by the crotch and gently pull the layers out. There is no need to iron any costume. Get instructions from the teacher regarding straps, tutu or skirt placement, and headpiece or hair arrangement. Also, take note of the tights and shoes that are required with the costume. Don’t wait until the last minute to purchase any new items. Make sure all items are labeled with child’s name.
REHEARSAL. Miss Virginia and Miss Kay are now the “Directors.” Please let them do this important job uninterrupted. The rehearsal will go smoother and faster if they can maintain their concentration on the production. If you have questions, ask one of the staff members.
There will be an information table set up in the lobby. We will answer questions, give you a program, take pre-registration for next year and do whatever needs to be done.
Please arrive at the rehearsal according to the schedule. Arrive well rested; encourage all children to rest in the afternoon before coming to dance. If you are going to be at the school for several hours, bring a snack or you could leave and come back later. It will decrease your stress level a lot to leave younger non-dancing siblings at home. Use this opportunity to focus on your dancer and enjoy this time you have together talking about their special qualities. All the dancers have worked hard to dance in the recital – they should “shine” this weekend.
Please take home video at the dress rehearsal. We will have a professional video of both shows done on Sunday and available for sale.
ATTITUDE. Most of the work is done now. It is time to have FUN! We want this dance experience to be positive and wonderful! The children are extremely excited. Listen carefully to instructions. Try to remain calm and enjoy the experience. We hear from many of our former students who recall their dance recital as a major highlight of their childhood. That is what we want for every student.
SHOW DAYS. Bring the whole family to show your dancer support. This is wonderful family entertainment.
Tickets can be purchased online beforehand or at the door. THE TICKETS ARE RESERVED SEATING. Everyone, dancers included, must have a ticket to enter the theater. Let our staff help with any questions you have. We want to make the recital a special occasion for your entire family!
