Frequently Asked Questions – The Pay Review

Why has the Council reviewed its Pay and Terms and Conditions of Service?

This is something that we committed to do several years ago, along with other local authorities throughout the country. We are making sure that the way employees are paid is consistent across the Council. Also, because of equal pay legislation, the Council has to be sure that employees receive equal pay for work of equal value. That means that if we have assessed two completely different jobs as being the same (in terms of complexity and responsibility, for example), we will pay them the same.

If I am successful in my application, what will happen?

If you are successful at interview, we will offer you this job at the pay rate that applies at the time and tell you about the new pay rate which will be effective from 1 April 2010.

What will happen on 1 April 2010?

If you accept the offer of employment, you will also be accepting the changes which are effective from April 2010. The changes will be automatically applied and a new Statement of Particulars will be sent out to you.

Where can I find out more information?
