IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR ALL PATIENTS AND VISITORS TO THE REGIONAL REHABILITATION CENTRE

WELLINGTON AND BIRGE STREETS TO BE CLOSED TEMPORARILY AS OF MONDAY, JULY 18

As of Monday, July 18, the City of Hamilton will begin a four-month water main and sewer project on:

  • Wellington Street North (from Barton Street East to Ferrie Street)
  • Birge Street (from Wellington Street North to Victoria Avenue North).

What does this mean?

We are sharing this information with you so that you can plan ahead if you have an appointment or if you are visiting someone at the Regional Rehabilitation Centre. We anticipate that there will be traffic delays as Wellington and Birge Streets are closed for this work.

You should allow extra time for parking and for getting to your destination at the Centre.

Where can I park and how do I access the Centre?

Drop off area and parking for patients and visitors with disability

A temporary roadway off of Copeland Avenue will be available for patients and visitors with disability who need to access the Centre and the Accessible parking area.

Directions:

  • Travel north on Victoria Avenue
  • Turn left (west) on Copeland Avenue (between the hospital and Victoria Parking Ramp) and then follow the road to the right as it approaches Wellington.
  • This will take you to the main entrance of the Centre on Wellington
  • From here, you will also be able to proceed to the accessible parking lot located adjacent to the Centre on Birge Street. When exiting, you will have to take the temporary roadway back to Copeland.

This roadway will be in place until Birge reopens in mid-September.

Victoria Avenue Parking Ramp - Access to this parking lot will NOT be affected. You may park in this ramp, exit at level B and walk along Copeland to the Rehabilitation Centre. Accessible parking is also located on level B. Please note that you will not be able to turn left on Birge Street when exiting the ramp. You will ONLY be able to turn right on Birge or proceed North on Victoria Avenue.

Wellington Avenue Parking Lot - Visitor parking will NOT be available.

Barton Street Parking Lot - Located just west of the hospital, east of Ferguson on Barton. You can enter and exit this lot from Barton Street. There are no pay stations on this lot but, you can pay at a machine in the Rehab building, or by credit card at the exit.

Individuals traveling to the Centre via Burlington Street should turn left at Wentworth Street (instead of Wellington), and then right on Barton .

For those traveling by bus to the Centre, please use the Barton and Victoria bus stop.
