JOB TITLE

/ Fundraising and Events Officer

SALARY

/ £25,493 per annum pro rata

LOCATION

/ The main office base will be Somerset Heritage Centre, Brunel Way, Norton Fitzwarren, Taunton, TA2 6SF.

HOURS OF WORK

/ The job is offered at 37 hours per week. The offices of the Somerset Heritage Centre are open daily from 8am to 5.15pm, Monday to Friday. Your working hours can be flexible within these times and with the agreement of your line manager. Some evening and weekend working will be required, for which time off in lieu will be given.

CONTRACT

/ Temporary contract, for two years until 31 June2018 in the first instance.

PROBATIONARY PERIOD

/ The Trust has a standard probationary period for all employees of six months.

LEAVE

/ The annual leave entitlement for this position is 29 days per year on a pro rata basis. Public holidays are additional to the annual leave.

NOTICE PERIOD

/ The notice required during the probationary period is one week. Following completion of the probationary period, notice required is one month from either the employee or the Trust.

DISCLOSURE AND BARRING SERVICE CHECK

/ A Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check is not required for this position.

Job Title / Fundraising and Events Officer

Job Purpose / As Fundraising and Events Officer, you will be involved with all areas of the South West Heritage Trust: Museums, Archives, Historic Environment and Estates, and Learning.
Working closely with the Head of Business Services and the PR and Communications Officer, you will directly influence methods of income generation through donations, legacies and our new Supporters’ Scheme.
You will also provide support to staff involved with planning and delivering events and to the Public Programmes Group.
The role is divided into three main areas of work:
  1. Lead and develop the Supporters’ Scheme to reach our annual targets for growth. This will include attending headline events and supporting staff throughout the organisation.
  2. Develop and deliver an action plan to increase income from donations and legacies.
  3. Work with the Public Programmes Group to ensure the strategic development of new events and activities.

Working Relationships / Internal: Head of Business Services, PR & Communications Officer, Reception Team, Finance Team, Public Programmes Group, staff across all sites.
External: The general public as potential donors, legacy givers and members of the Supporters’ Scheme.
Additional Information / The ability to travel independently is essential.
Some evening/weekend working will be required for which time off in lieu will be given.
Job Description – Key Responsibilities and Tasks
Supporters Scheme
  • Lead on the planning, development and delivery of the Supporters’ Scheme for the Trust, to include revisionsto the Scheme as appropriate and engagement with existing and new audiences.
  • Prepare and deliver briefings and updates to staff at all sites relating to ‘sales’ of subscriptions.
  • Support staff in the Business Services Team to ensure the smooth recruitment of Supporters to the Scheme and exacting standards of customer focus and care.
  • Attend key events to promote the Trust and the Supporters’ Scheme.
Donations and Legacies
  • Develop and deliver a clear action plan, which maximises the potential of the Trust to attract donations and legacies.
  • Revise messages and point of sale methods to attract a greater level of donations at sites, events and online.
  • Research and deliver innovative and new methods of securing donations at sites and events and online.
  • Working with the PR and Communications Officer and the Design Team, create materials (leaflets and online) which provide appropriate information about how individuals may leave bequests to the Trust and how bequests will be used.
Events
  • Support the internal Public Programmes Group (PPG) to review strategic priorities for future events and activities.
  • Advise the PPG about gaps, date conflicts and resource issues for events.
  • Maintain the Event Register and prepare events lists for Supporters at least quarterly.
General
  • The job holder is required to comply with all policies and procedures of the Trust which includes the Trust’s Health and Safety procedures in the workplace, ensuring personal safety and the safeguarding of the interests and safety of all staff, trainees, visitors, and others at the Trust.

Person Specification

PERSON SPECIFICATION
To succeed in this role you will need to demonstrate:
Essentials / Desirables
Qualifications / Educated to degree level or equivalent
AND / OR
A minimum of five years working experience in a similar role, specialising in one or more of the following:
  • Community fundraising
  • Events planning and management
  • Membership schemes
Full driving licence valid in the UK / Membership of a relevant professional organisation or institute
Experience / Proven experience of strategically planning and coordinating events and activities within the heritage and/or charitable sector
Collaborating with staff to maximise impact and successful delivery of events and fundraising activities
Working with and developing membership schemes, to achieve realistic targets and high levels of retention / Experience of working with volunteers
Experience of developing an effective legacy case forsupport and appropriate related materials.
Experience of running legacy donor events and activities
Commercial experience
Skills/Knowledge / ExcellentIT skills, using a range of MS Office tools, specialist databases and web-based applications.
Understanding of how to create and target fundraising campaigns and promotions at sites and online / Knowledge of the heritage sector
Attributes / Aneffective communicator on all levels, with the ability to enthuse others
