The Tavistock Centre for Couple Relationships

Founded in 1948 as the Family Discussion Bureau, the Tavistock Centre for Couple Relationships (TCCR) works to improve the quality of adult couple relationships, prevent family breakdown and enhance the lives of children. It is a national organisation, with an international reputation for:

  • supplying specialist therapeutic services to couples and individuals experiencing difficulties in their relationships;
  • providing training and consultancy on delivering, developing and managing services for couples and families;
  • undertaking research that contributes to the understanding of couple and family relationships and how best they might be improved;
  • developing therapeutic practice, training and research

TCCR currently has an establishment of 13 clinical/managerial staff, most of whom work part-time, 7 full-time administrative staff and 2 full-time finance staff. Around 60 additional colleagues assist the Centre in providing services as visiting lecturers, clinicians, researchers, consultants and volunteers. TCCR also has around 80 students undertaking academic and clinical programmes. Its turnover is in excess of £1.4 million pa. The Chief Executive leads, and is assisted by, the Policy and Planning Group in managing the Centre, which consists of the Directors of Training, Clinical Services and Strategic Development, together with the Head of Finance and the Head of Administration and Buildings. Other staff are co-opted from time to time.

TCCR is funded by fees charged for services, project grants, charitable donations and a strategic grant from the Department for Education.

THE APPOINTMENT

This is a permanentpart –time position.

Remuneration

£25,000 pro rata for a 17.5 hour week plus contributory pension scheme. (Leave entitlement: 25 days pro rata)

Post Title: Communications and Marketing Manager

Reporting to:Reporting to the Director of Strategic Development

Purpose of Post: Oversee the communications and marketing functions of the organisation including managing:-

  • All contacts with the media
  • Advertising
  • Website
  • Co-ordinating and managing external mailings and communications
  • Assisting with internal communications, bulletins and mailings as required
  • A quality control function and acting as a ‘brand keeper’ to ensure that the organisation’s work is always reinforcing brand awareness and development
  • To act as a resource, advising on all communications and marketing matters as required

What is involved:

Communicating and marketing TCCR’s services

Developing, maintaining and updating the Centre’s website

Monitoring and improving the websites search results.

Co-ordinating the organisations “diary of events” in conjunction with training and conference administrators

Co-ordinating the design and production of the centre’s publicity materials

Co-ordinating and managing mailings of publicity materials

Researching new advertising and publicity opportunities and actively developing thecommunications strategy

Advertising and publicising courses and events in conjunction with the training and conference administrators

Registering the centre and staff in appropriate directories

Developing and maintaining the media/VIPdatabases

Liaising and co-ordinating responses to media enquiries; maintaining records of contact with the media and copies of media references to the Centre.

Producing press releases in conjunction with the CEO and Director of Strategic Development and other senior staff.

Supporting the production of the Centre’s annual newsletter “In Brief” and Annual Report in conjunction with the Director and SMT.

Managing the advertising and printing budget

Liaising with IT and other communications/marketing agencies as required

Recruiting and managing a short term Internship post

 Working with the Head of Training and Consultation to produce prospectus copy

Person Specification

A degree or equivalent from a recognised academic institution.

Excellent organisational abilitiestogether with an ability to manage priorities and resources

Proven track record in marketing and communications work

A positive attitude towards of diversity, welcoming of people with disabilities, different faiths and cultures, races and sexualities

Ability to manage others, support their learning and development, supervise and appraise them in accordance with TCCR policies

Competence in operating Microsoft Office software, especially Word, Excel, Outlook and Access

Ability to manage and develop websites

 Experience in desktop publishing and web design

Experience of and an ability to develop communications, marketing and PR strategies

Able to work well alone and in a team

Excellent communication skills both oral and written

Impeccable telephone manners

Co-operative nature, combining firmness with tact and diplomacy.

Good analytical thinking and evidence of research skills

Understanding of budgets and financial reporting

Experience of report writing and record keeping

Experience of negotiation

Creative thinking and a flexible attitude, taking on other tasks as might be required

An interest in specialist therapeutic couple work and research.
