Curtis, Fort Sill'sGarrison Commander.

As part of the Healthy Army Communities (HAC) initiative, Fort Sill became the second installation to introduce the Charging Station program to its Soldiers, their families and support staff on Fort Sill.

The August 17 launch included Charging Station refrigerated display cases and racks filled to the brim with healthy food and beverage items that all comply with DoD Healthy Army Communities nutritional guidelines. Brenda Spencer-Ragland, Family and MWR Director, commented: “This is an initiative by IMCOM to promote the availability of healthyoptions for our customers, internal and external.”

The first Fort Sill Charging Station was placed in Cooper CDC. This Station will provide Healthy food and beverage options for those on duty with limited break times. “It's a great way forthose young families that run in before work to drop off their children toperhaps grab a healthy snack” said Ms. Spencer-Ragland. Charging Stations have also been installed on Fort Sill at the Golf Course’s Mulligan’s snack bar, Strike Zone at Twin Oaks Bowling Center, and at the Rod and Gun Club.

Charging Station was initially developed by Value 4 to provide healthier food options for college athletes and was adapted for the U.S. Army thru cooperation between IMCOM G9, US Foods, Premier, Inc. and Value 4. The food and beverage products available through Charging Station meet HAC nutritional standards in all criteria and are available in quick-serve and grab-and-go fashion in high-traffic locations in a Garrison.

At the direction and oversight of IMCOM G9, Value 4’s chefs, Premier’s dietitians and US Foods’ sales team has customized Charging Station for the U.S. Army with a selection of beverages, fruits & vegetables, sandwiches, yogurt, nutrition bars and snacks that hit HAC standards – most containing fewer than 500 calories and is a perfect fit for the program. The HAC logo is highlighted on the Charging Station menu to assist the DoD community identify the options that are most nutritious for purchase. All products in the Charging Station program are available through the Prime Vendor program with US Foods for CONUS. The HAC program is a demonstration project in our efforts to support and improve nutritional choices, increased physical activities, obesity reduction and decreased tobacco use throughout the U.S. Army.

As part of this healthy initiative we have plans to introduce Charging Station to 8 additional HAC demonstration Garrisonsin the coming months before we undertake a world-wide roll-out.
