IMAGINE NEPAL INITIATIVE-2020

Progress Report

November 2002 - March 2003

Appreciative Inquiry Network Kathmandu declared the “Imagine Nepal Initiative (INI) 2020” in September 2002. Since then following activities were carried out:

A. Major Events of INI

1.A five-member team Nepali delegates representing Imagine Nepal participated in the Imagine Chicago Summit held in USA between September 13 – 18, 2002. The members of the team were: Gana Pati Ojha of CCRC, Usha Jha of PACT Nepal, Buddhi Bahadur Tamang, and Durga Pokhrel and Uma Karki of NWC. Altogether, there were about 125 participants from 12 countries of six continents representing 32 Imagine projects. Participants were from the inter-generational diversity.

2.Open Space Technology Workshop was organized for AI Network members October 18, 2002 at CapitalCollege and ResearchCenter in Kathmandu. Michael Herman from USA facilitated the workshop and 35 AI people were participated including 8 women.

3.A three-member team Nepali participants representing Imagine Nepal Initiative participated in “AI Certificate program on positive business and society change to the project-an AI into Business as an Agent of World Benefit” in Cleveland USA held between October 28-November 1, 2002. The members of the team were: Padam Bahadur Biswokarma, Buddhi Bahadur Tamang, and Dhruba Acharya.

4.INI Project has developed with the five years strategic plan with its concept. The present strengths of Nepal has discovered and vision has developed for 20-years. In design, it has covered general guidelines, general provisions, provocative provisions and objectives. Similarly, it has covered following components as:

  1. Programs,
  2. Method for implementation,
  3. Sustainability of the achievements/results (output, outcome & impact)
  4. Transparency
  5. Accountability
  6. Ownership of concerned stakeholders
  7. Monitoring
  8. Validation and reflection

5.Kathmandu 2020 has continued its program activities in Kathmandu valley. Kathmandu 2020 organized Bagmati Festival at Teku-dovan Kathmandu for two days and around 250 people were interviewed. In the Disaster Management fair, AI install was installed and around 500 people were interviewed. Disaster Management Nepal Society for Earthquake Technology organized it in Bhaktapur Discovery between 16-19January 2003.

B. Institutional Development of INI

1.Imagine Parbat BS 2080 Coordination committee has formed with comprising on 16 January 2003. Five days training was organized in Kusma and total participants were 28 including 4 women. The Imagine Parbat Coordination Committee is as follows:

3.Nepal one AI workshop has done on 12 March 2003 and total participants were 31. AI network is under process by representing Humla, Surkhet, Banke, Dadeldhura districts.

4.Imagine Tamang BS 2080 has formed with comprising 13 members for 1300000 Tamang population of Nepal on 19 March 2003. Four days AI training was organized for them and 28 participants (including 5 women) were participated. Second phase training has planned to facilitate the Imagine process. The committee has covered Nuwakot, Solu, Ramechhap, Sindhuli, Kavre and Kathmandu districts. The committee is as follows:
