b.Treasurer Patel, Budget Report 2016

i.Treasurer Patel wants to talk about how the budget works, how it operates for people applying for money in future:

iii.This years SBA Budget: $80,000 with 520 students

iv.Spring Appeals Process:

  1. Not advertised because funds are very limited
  2. Started January 19th, goes until Feb 21st.

i.Rick says that this is great event: selling wristbands for tomorrow in Hoboken – fundraiser.

a.Approval of Seton Hall Elections Committee Chair: Benjamin Forrest

i.Ben Forrest speaks about the new Elections Committee

ii.Thanks all committee members personally for their hard work.

iii.Direction

  1. Compares to Penn State campaigns – had everything, out of control – campaigns, fundraising, etc. Seton Hall had none of that. Trying to find a balance between the two.

iv.Minor violations here at SHU, but inconsistency in how to handle elections

v.No one has come forward to be chair, no one has come forward to be on committee – trial run this year.

vi.Biggest challenge is to get people involved – if you want to get involved or know people who would want to get involved please tell him.

vii.Makes a joke about Rick Scott.

viii.Senator Falci motions to approve Ben Forrest as Committee Chairperson.

  1. Senator Saferstein seconds.
  2. Unanimous approval.

b.Motion by Senator Bessemer to talk about honor code.

c.Second by Senator Falci.

d.VP Ott: Faculty changed the honor code and finally voted on it, number of faculty members who specific concerns, rehashed things and put it back up for vote

e.Is an option for code for one student to be included in panel… if person is accused for sexual assault, can request student be off investigation.

f.Best version that they could put forward with the definition of consent that they wanted to.

g.Point of order – Edward Collins – this is not on the agenda

l.DISCUSSION:

i.Senator Saferstein – what happens if male is assaulted? VP Ott – same thing as if female is assaulted.

ii.Senator Collins – where is copy of code with exact changes outlines?

  1. Brings up Section e(4) – dating violence is not defined… a lot of constituents are dating at the law school and is not comfortable with this not being defined.
  2. Says this is extremely ambiguous – Dellera asks if it isambigious.
  3. Senator Collins says he thinks we should address this.

iii.Senator Powers – any info about title 9 and how they play into it? VP Ott - Preponderence of the evidence standard stays in – some things cannot be changed.

  1. Senator Powers dealt with Title 9, gender equality/sexual assault falls under title 9 and some of the stuff is handled by federal law.

iv.Senator Collins – is concerned with the honor code and how that can impact peoples careers.

  1. Senator Powers thinks if people can be held liable criminally then we would be ok.

v.VP Ott asks if we can conditionally accept with looking out section 4(e).

vi.Senator Collins wants to know what is exactly different between the two documents.

vii.Senator Safari – where can people report sexual assault at the law school?

viii.Senator Collins says Section 5.02 isnt clear as well.

ix.Senator Falci asks if we table this will we still be held under undergrad sex assault? VP Ott – doesn’t think so because its too close of notice.

x.Senator Powers – wants to request a recess?

xi.ALL IN FAVOR OF TABLING – yes. No nays.
