RPEMS Wellness Committee Meeting

Tuesday, July 1, 2014

PRoland Park Pool

MINUTES

  1. Maiju has history: all notes, minutes, printables, etc. and will get that to Elisha.

IIGoals: to increase communication with entire school

Produce two documents

  1. Procedures Manual
  2. Operating Budget

Committee members will give Emily Aubrey brief summaries of projects with helpful tips and tricks and budget items. She will create procedure manual including a timeline. Budget items will eventually get sent to Hie Jung who will create a budget for us.

Emily will have a draft by our September meeting (maybe earlier) for us to review.

Make Better Use of Website

  1. Meeting minutes, newsletters, etc., will get posted on website and CP.
  2. PTA will possibly revive its newsletter and wellness program will have a column regularly. This paper newsletter will include wellness tips and calendar of events for the month (esp if they are newer events added and or coordinated with other subcommittees like Climate) - of course our logo and tag line always included. this also gets posted to website as pdf

Establishing Regularly Occurring Annual Events and Themes

  1. Suggestions:

Sept: a large one page document outlining Wellness mission statement, efforts and history as well as calendar of events - for website and for distribution at back to school nights

Sept in PTA newsletter: theme back to school stress and emotional climate (Elisha)

Oct: Fire up your feet: running festival and walking to school (Amy)

Nov: Healthy thanksgiving message regarding food perhaps (Jane)

Dec

Jan (emily)

Feb (jump rope and hula hoop for heart- Luke maybe??)

March (Kate) - maybe March Madness basketball tournament?

April, May, June unaccounted for as of now.

Calendar

  1. Calendar updates can be sent out via email as well in a quick email blast via CP and Listserve.
  2. Ideally, our wellness events also get added to the school-wide calendar that goes out in the beginning of the school year.
  3. Hie Jung just checked on this and Mr D needs all submissions no later than July 28th
  4. Can we get sex talk twice this year and get it on the calendar? as well as national food day, jump rope events, running festival and walk to school days?

IIISuggestions Going Forward

Brainstorming best case scenarios for each subcommittee: what would we do if we had no boundaries? (i.e. offer staff Zumba and or Yoga all year with instructor paid by school).

Next Meeting: August 27th, Nancy Kass’ House, 4712 Keswick Road
