LEARN offers a total communication program for its deaf and hard of hearing students. Self-contained classes are located in public schools with mainstreaming individually planned and carefully monitored. Many of the students are involved in regular school activities, sports and clubs. The program has monthly parent meetings and sign language courses are offered for parents, school personnel and the public. This program is based in East Lyme. Staff includes 5 teachers, 5 teacher assistants, a staff speech therapist and assistant tutor. Services are also provided by an audiologist, counselor for the deaf, physical therapist, and occupational therapist. Summer activities will be provided for children in need of a continuous educational program.
Please note that through each Regional Service Center one or more BIRTH TO THREE COORDINATORS work directly with children with handicaps and their parents. However, they are not part of the specialized hearing impaired programs.
