Making Kingston Hospital’s

Cancer Services the best they can be.

Can you help us?

The voices and experiences of

patients and carers are a real force for positive change.

Have you received treatment for cancer or cared for someone with cancer in the last 5 years?

Have you completed active treatment for at least one year?

Our aim is to make the service that patients receive the best that we can.

We want to:

  • Strengthen the cancer patient’s voice and perspective within Kingston Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.
  • Consult with and listen to people whose lives have been affected by cancer.
  • Work on behalf of patients and carers to improve services.
  • Bring the experiences of anyone affected by cancer to the attention of those who fund, commission, plan and manage services in the area.

Why should you get involved?

We know that everyone is different and has different motivations to get involved.

Here are some quotes from carers and patients on what benefits they have had from being involved in the user group:

“To help cancer patients now and in the future.”

“To give something back.”

“Because I have something to offer.”

“To help improve present and future services.”

Activities may include:

  • Be involved in the production of patient information or patient surveys.
  • Ensuring that the patient’s voice is heard in improving local cancer services.
  • Keeping up to date and advising on local cancer care developments.
  • Contributing to meetings and committees.
  • Talking to health professionals as part of their training about your experiences.
  • Working with health professionals to help design good quality patient information leaflet or questionnaires.
  • To give expert opinion to inform project direction.
  • To make recommendations on future work planning.
