The Financial Women in Texas Llano Estacado Chapter Barron Huffaker Scholarship is a $500 per semester (fall and spring) award open to women, planning or undertaking a business and/or business-related program degree that leads to a career in any financial services field; who are enrolled as a full-time student in one of the following accredited local universities/colleges in Lubbock Texas; Texas Tech University, Lubbock Christian University, Wayland Baptist University and South Plains College or enrolled in a senior high school located within a 50-mile radius of the city of Lubbock.   1. South Plains Electric Co-Op is offering a scholarship. This scholarship is for entering freshmen who are seeking a college, university or technical school education. You are eligible if you are currently a senior in high school (within the Cooperative's service territory) and are a member, spouse of a member, child or stepchild of a member or child whose legal guardian is a member of the Cooperative and a participant in Operation Round Up. Financial Women in Texas; Llano Estacado Chapter Barron-Huffaker Scholarship are offering a scholarship of $500 per semester to a female who will pursue a degree in business leading to a career in the financial services industry. 12. Nursing Schools Almanac has just launched its inaugural2015 Aspiring Nurse Scholarship. Our website will award a $1,000 scholarship to an aspiring nurse who best demonstrates: A track record of academic excellence, particularly in science and mathematics and a passion for the nursing profession and the overall field of healthcare. This scholarship competition is open to all high school seniors who plan to pursue college education in nursing, including LPN / LVN, ADN, and BSN programs. 13. The Joan Y. Ervin/MLK Scholars Program is offering a $2000 scholarship that will be awarded to a Senior who will be attending a college in the Fall and currently has a 2.4 GPA or higher. 14. The Ozarka “Every Drop Counts” Earth Science Scholarship will be awarded to two students $10,000 each to those who will pursue a degree in the field of earth/environmental science. Deadline to apply is May 15th and the application is on file in the counseling office and at

The National Security Language Initiative for Youth (NSLI-Y)offers merit-based scholarships to study one of seven critical foreign languages: Arabic, Chinese, Hindi, Korean, Persian (Tajiki), Russian, and Turkish. The NSLI-Y program is designed to immerse participants in the cultural life of the host country, provide formal and informal language practice, and spark a lifetime interest in foreign languages and cultures. 17. The Kennedy-Lugar Youth Exchange and Study (YES) Abroad Program offers merit-based scholarships to spend an academic year in countries that may include Bosnia & Herzegovina, Ghana, India, Indonesia, Macedonia, Malaysia, Morocco, Philippines, Senegal, Thailand, and Turkey. This program increases understanding between people in the United States and people in countries with significant Muslim populations. Students live with host families, attend local high schools, do community service, and complete a capstone project. Applications for academic year 2016-17 programs are due December 1, 2015. 18. The Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange Program (CBYX) offers merit-based scholarships for an academic year in Germany. The program was established in 1983 to celebrate German-American friendship based on common values of democracy. Students live with host families, attend local schools, and participate in community life in Germany. 22. The Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Southwest Scholarship Programis offering scholarships to seniors who are eligible. To be eligible you must have had a serious childhood illness or injury or had a sibling who had a serious childhood illness or injury which impacted the family. Applicants must submit the following:

24. Baylor University annually awards scholarships through the Carr P. Collins Scholars Program to students who have demonstrated leadership through service. Collins Scholars are awarded a minimum of $5,000 their freshman year, renewable for three additional years. To be considered for the program, applicants must meet all university requirements for unconditional admission; have a minimum combined critical reading and math score of 1250 on the SAT or a minimum of 28 on the ACT; have completed a balanced college preparatory program including history, science, and a foreign language; be in the top quarter of your graduating class; and be a resident of the state of Texas. 25. Baylor University also has an outstanding scholarship program for National Merit Finalists. Students who advance to Finalist standing in the National Merit Scholarship competition and designate Baylor University as your first choice college receive the Regents’ Gold Scholarship. This scholarship covers full tuition plus an additional amount ranging from $2,000 to $4,000, depending on the Finalist’s SAT/ACT score.

26. Baylor also offers other academic scholarships through their President’s Gold, Provost’s Gold, Deans’ Gold Scholarship programs. These scholarships range in value from $20,000 to $80,000, divided evenly over four years of undergraduate study. 27. In 2015, the Texas Society of Professional Engineers (TSPE) and the Texas Engineering Foundation (TEF) will award approximately $75,000 in scholarships to engineering students attending an ABET – accredited university. For a list of Texas universities with ABET- accredited programs can be found at If you are considering a career in engineering and are interested in applying for a scholarship then please apply by January 8, 2016. You should be notified by the end of March 2016 if you will be awarded a scholarship. You may download the application from The application is on file, as well, in the counseling office.

28. Students scheduled to graduate high school during the 2015-2016 school year and actively enrolled in CTE throughout their high school career are eligible to apply for the Mahindra Texas Pride Scholarship. Students must have successfully completed at least three credits in two or more CTE courses and currently be enrolled in a CTE course for the fall and/or spring semester of your senior year. Interested student may apply online on the CTAT Scholarship Portal ( by Thursday, March 31, 2016.

29. The 2016 GE-Reagan Foundation Scholarship Program is a national program that awards college scholarships to high school seniors who embody the characteristics of President Ronald Reagan at school, in the community, in the workplace, and at home. These characteristics include leadership, drive, integrity, and citizenship. Recipients receive $10,000 renewable scholarships – up to $40,000 per student. Apply online through by January 7, 2016.

30. The Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps (NROTC) Scholarship Program offers students the opportunity to earn their degree and receive valuable leadership and management skills while enjoying the benefits of an exciting career. Basic requirements are:

  • Be a U.S. Citizen
  • Be at least 17 years of age by 01 September of their Freshman Year and not older than 23 by June 30th of the year you start college
  • Complete high school/equivalent certificate
  • Take the ACT or SAT test prior to deadline and receive at least these minimum scores

ACT: Math-24, English-24

SAT: Math-560, Critical Reading-570

  • May apply for NACY or NURSE CORPS (must major in a nursing degree program leading to a BSN)
  • Major in any field
  • Take normal course load required for degree
  • Enroll in two Naval Science Courses per year
  • Complete the following courses: Calculus, Physics, National Security Policy/U.S. Military Affairs, English Grammar and Composition, Navy ROTC Naval Science classes
  • There is no military service requirement for the first year of college
  • Upon completion of degree, receive commission as Ensign in the Navy Reserve
  • Five year active duty obligation (Except Nurse NROTC and Marine Option of Four Years.)

  • Full tuition and other financial benefits worth up to $180,000. NROTC Units are located at over 160 of the nation’s leading colleges and universities.

31. Delta Theta Chi Sorority, a national non-collegiate educational sorority, is accepting applications for two scholarships in the amount of $2,600 each. Requirements call for the student to reside in the United States, have a high scholastic average, show evidence of financial need, and are currently enrolled or planning to enroll in an accredited college. Applicants also need to submit an application form (click here for link to application), with attachments as specified by the National Executive Council. 32. The Lubbock Legal Professional Association is awarding a scholarship in the amount of $500, to be paid in two separate payments of $250. One payment will be made in the fall semester and the second portion will be made in the spring semester. The student must have proof of enrollment for each semester. The deadline for the application is Friday, January 8, 2016. It must be postmarked by January 8 to be accepted for review. The LLPA Scholarship Committee will meet shortly after the deadline of January 8, 2016 to make a decision on the winner of the scholarship award. Our goal is to announce the winner by January 20, 2016. Additionally, there is a scholarship offered through our state level organization. The Texas Association of Legal Professionals offers a $1,500 scholarship. The recipient of the LLPA scholarship may have the opportunity to have their name submitted for the TALP scholarship. The decision whether or not to submit the recipient’s name will be at the decision of our Scholarship Committee. 34. The Lubbock Restaurant Association Culinary Arts Scholarship is established to promote opportunities for the development of leadership and skills of Culinary Arts students. The scholarship award will be $500.00. It will be awarded to the highest qualified candidate submitting a complete application. The deadline for submission is May 1 each year. To be eligible to apply you must be a U.S. Citizen or legal resident, have an overall B grade average, must a graduating senior in high school, must have been accepted by the food service or hospitality school (funds will be issued to the school), and should be clear and concise in completing the application, since the decision and selection of the recipient will be made on the application information, not by personal interview. 34. Lubbock Teachers Federal Credit Union will award $1500.00 scholarships. These will be $750.00 per semester for each scholarship. In order for the student to receive the second semester stipend, he or she must still be enrolled as a full-time student in college (taking at least 12 semester hours) and have maintained a GPA of at least 2.5. The two semesters must be conservative semesters. Applications for these scholarships will be available to students who meet the following criteria:

  1. Be the child of a Lubbock Teachers Federal Credit Union member who was a member as of January 1 of the year of graduation. The child of a board member or committee member is not eligible.
  2. Be a full-time high school senior planning to attend college full time the semester following graduation from high school.
  3. Be a student planning to attend any institution of higher learning , including a four- year university, two- year junior college, vocational, technical, or trade school. Any major is acceptable.
  4. Applications should be submitted to high school counselors during the month of March in the year of graduation. Counselors will submit all applications to the credit union by April 1st of the same year.
  5. Winners will be notified by May 1st.
  6. A transcript of the high school record will accompany the application.
