Upward Boundis aprogram that is 100% funded by the U.S.Department of Education. It is designed to help you through every step of your high school career and to go on to the college of your choice. If this sounds like a good deal to you, read on!

Minimum Federal requirements for Upward Bound applicants:

You must be a U.S. citizen or permanent U.S. Resident

You must be first in your family to obtain a Bachelor’s Degree

UPWARD BOUNDprovides tutoring, instruction, counseling, career information, motivation, and the opportunity to experience a college atmosphere while still in high school.

UPWARD BOUNDconcentrates on these basic areas: Reading, Study Skills, English, Mathematics, and Science.

UPWARD BOUNDworks with the students individually or in small groups, paying attention to their specific academic needs.

UPWARD BOUNDstresses the importance of developing self-confidence and a sense of achievement.

TheUPWARD BOUNDProgram consists of two parts--

theAcademic Year Component and the Summer Component.

The Academic Year Component includes:

Saturday instructional sessions

Options available for tutoring

Assistance to students in preparing their academic programs, defining their career goals,applying for admissions to universities or colleges of their choice, and obtaining financial aid.

Field trips to places of educational and cultural value.

Visits to institutions of postsecondary education, and visits from representatives of such institutions

Contact with students’ parents, teachers, and counselors.

Laptop & Calculator Loan Program to assist in homework assignments.

Lunch

The Summer Component includes:

Possible high school credit offerings

A six-week summer program

Extensive tutoring and counseling

Access to all College facilities, including sports, cultural and recreational activities.

Field trips, competitions, and entertainment.

The opportunity to experience life in a college setting.

A one week university residential program for eligible students.

Lunch and/or Meals during university residential week.

ALL OF THESE SERVICES ARE FREE TO STUDENTS WHO ARE ACCEPTED INTO THEUPWARD BOUNDPROGRAM.
