Science and Engineering Fair topic Checklist
These questions are to help you evaluate your topic. If you answer "yes" to all the questions below, then your topic is a suitablefor further investigation.Question
- Is the topic interesting to you, and will it still be interesting in 3-4 months?
- Will you have time to complete the project? Data must be collected by Oct. 16 and the completed project is due Dec. 8.
- What is the science or engineering concept that your project deals with?
- Whatwill you measure quantitatively? (Can you measure, calculate, or count something?)
- What will be your variable, control(s), and constants?
- Can you repeat your measurements multiple times?
- Can you find at least 3 reliable sources of background information on your topic? (book, magazine, internet, interview)
- Is your project of an appropriate level of difficulty? Your project should be challenging, but you will need to understand and explain the underlying scientific principles.
- What materials will you need? How will you obtain them? Can you obtain them in a timely manner?
- Is your project affordable? (Projects should not be costly; great projects can be done for no cost at all and many for less than $10-$20)
- Is there an adult (teacher, parent, volunteer) who can help if necessary? (Your teacher may not be an authority on the subject or have other obligations when you would like to work after school.)
- What type of graph will you use to display your data?
