Sathya Sai Baba

Sathya Sai Baba is a world teacher who brings man a sense of his identity and an understanding of his purpose. His life and message are inspiring millions of people throughout the world to turn God-ward and to lead a more purposeful and moral life. His timeless and universal teachings, along with the manner in which he leads his own life, are attracting seekers of Truth from all the religions and pathways of the world. Yet, he is not seeking to start a new religion. Nor does he wish to direct followers to any particular religion. Rather, he urges us to continue to follow the religion or personal belief system of our choice or upbringing.

He was born on November 23, 1926 in Puttaparthi, a small village in southern India. From an early age he has taught that we are all innately divine. He is demonstrating how people should live together by his service work. His key message is, ‘Love all, serve all’. The purpose of the service projects initiated by him is to meet the basic needs of man. These projects have become models of excellence and are being emulated around the world:

  • An extensive project to supply drinking water to the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh was initiated by Sathya Sai Baba in 1994.
  • The adoption of 6,000 of the most needy and poverty-stricken villages in India, and engaging in a rural village upliftment programme.
  • The establishment of three Super Speciality charitable hospitals and maintaining over 250 charitable medical clinics, operating throughout India, all of which provide services without charge.
  • The formulation of an integral system of education in his schools, colleges and universities throughout the world, all of which are tuition free. This education system is primarily about giving equal importance to both academic and spiritual aspects of education through the introduction of human values, as exemplified in the concepts of Truth, Love, Peace, Right-Conduct and Non-Violence.
  • Internationally, the Sri Sathya Sai Service Organisation is involved in a large number of impressive voluntary humanitarian service projects including intensive free medical camps, helping refugees and in disaster zones. There are over 2,000 Sathya Sai Centres in some 170 countries.
