Major Student and Affinity Group Activities
ü Prof. Ying Li (who is a Chapter Chair of IEEE Information Theory Society, Taipei Chapter) successfully held the WIE promotion activity, Chia-yi, Taiwan, Feb, 2, 2012.
ü A WIE (Women in Engineering) promotion activity was held during the 2012 Spring IT and Comm. (Information Theory and Communications) Workshop on February 2, 2012 in National Chiayi University, Chiayi, Taiwan. http://www.eeeng.ncyu.edu.tw/itcom2012s/index.htm This workshop was attended by approximately 165 participants, including IEEE members and student members in IEEE Information Theory Society and Communications Society. A brief introduction of WIE was given, and one-page WIE information sheets were distributed. Members and student members were invited to participate in WIE through MyIEEE online access. Student members were encouraged to take advantage of the free membership of WIE for student members and to enhance their understanding of WIE issues. The financial status of this Section is comfortable for supporting those planned programs. Some of the chapters have contributed a reasonable percentage of their income to this Section. This allows the Section to maintain the routine functions and to hold more conferences. We also sponsored more student activities than before. The total income of the Section in 2011 was NT$2,585,729 including NT$652,834 of 2011 rebate in September 2011. The total expenses was NT$2,341,420. The final balance at the End of 2011 is NT$5,869,429. More detail is included in the 2011 Annual Geographic Unit Financial Report.

· Summary and evidence of work done to improve the value of membership, which leads to retention and growth of members
We have tried to have the IEEE Taipei section GOLD group established recently and hope that we can have a more retention rate in members. Besides, we have also asked the new chair of WIE to have more activities. A big event will be held in the August of 2012. In order to have more student members, we also plan to have thesis awards for different research field. To be eligible for those awards, they have to be student members. Thus, we believe, after those activities, the number of members should increase in this year.

C. Correspondents in the nationwide universities associated with Taipei Chapter
Starting from this year, IEEE AP-S Taipei Chapter has successfully established a network to serve our members. The link is based on the setup of correspondents in major universities in the territory of AP-S Taipei Chapter. These universities are the most active ones in Taiwan. This establishment of correspondents in the universities is the first in Taiwan with this unique network.
