The Office of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in the Kyrgyz Republic announces the vacancy for the post of:

ICTAssistant, GS5 (Temporary Contract) to be based in Osh

Under general supervision of Programme Specialist, ICT Assistant will provide support for users in Operations Base in Osh, ensuring that effective and efficient solutions are provided to all incidents and queries on ICT operations and services.

The successful candidate shall have:

  • Completion of Secondary education supplemented with formal training (at university level) in Computer Science, Business Administration. Computer literacy and ability to effectively use standard office software, tools and technologies;
  • Five years progressively responsible experience in computer information management work, including two to three years in data processing applications, database, multi-user network and telecommunications, hardware/software installation, user assistance and end-user documentation in support of office computerization;
  • English proficiency, knowledge of local languages of the duty station;
  • Knowledge of the overall design and operating principles of related computer system. Knowledge of Windows operating system. Ability to analyze the needs of the office and functions, and skills to design and implement efficient office computerization;
  • Good judgement, initiative, high sense of responsibility, organizational, negotiating and analytical skills;
  • Ability to draft routine correspondence independently;
  • Ability to prioritize and organize work assignments, assess and maintain confidentiality;
  • Work harmoniously with colleagues and be cooperative during peak loads, absenteeism of other staff;
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a multi-cultural environment, and establish harmonious and effective working relationships both within and outside the organization;
  • Positive and pleasant disposition towards work responsibilities.

The duties and responsibilities of the posts include:

  1. Administers the office multi-user network and other data and telecommunication facilities. This involves administering user access to the network, data security of the network, and troubleshooting ad-hoc hardware or software problems experienced in the network. This also involves cooperation with other UN agencies to have an off-site emergency backup facility.
  1. Organizes and perform office training and support on computer applications. This involves development of an office training and support plan based on organizational requirements and an assessment of staff competencies and needs.
  1. Coordinates and assist with the introduction and technical operation of organizational computer applications. This involves overall functioning of the system and the interaction of data between sections within the office and with the Country Office. Coordinate introduction of new system and troubleshoot ad-hoc user problems in its functioning.
  1. Coordinates and assist with the introduction of specific computer hardware and software. Installation of new hardware is scheduled with users. Advise users on appropriate use of software policy for the office.
  1. Administers maintenance of computer equipment. Maintain inventory of computer equipment.
  1. Performs any other duties specified by the supervisor.
