Network manager – selection criteria

The core purpose of the network manager is to work to level D in the old BECTA ICT Competences framework. The person appointed will either be at this standard already, or display the qualities, skills and ambition to suggest that she or he can be trained to this level.

Experience

  • Work in a network manager, assistant network manager or IT technician role
  • Work in a Microsoft Server 2008 R2 environment

  • Experience of network management in a school setting
  • Experience of using Direct Access
  • Experience of using Microsoft Lync

Knowledge

  • Understanding of the importance of the role in safeguarding children and young people
  • Comprehensive understanding of how to set up and maintain an enterprise network (e.g. Microsoft active directory, group policy, VLANs and managing a virtualized server environment)
  • Knowledge of key network protocols (e.g. DNS, VPN, IPv4, IPv6 etc)
  • Backup, disaster and recovery plans
