The International Consortium on Landslides (ICL) is an International non-governmental and non-profit scientific organization, which was established in January 2002 by worldwide universities, institutes, government organizations, academic societies and other entities. The consortium aims to promote landslide research for the benefit of society and the environment, and capacity building, including education, notably in developing countries.

The ICL, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the United Nations International Strategy for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR), the United Nations University (UNU), the International Council for Science (ICSU), and the World Federation of Engineering Organizations (WFEO) have established the International Programme on Landslides (IPL) by the Tokyo Action Plan strengthening research and learning on landslides and related earth system disasters for global risk preparedness in 2006. The IPL is managed by the IPL Global Promotion Committee. The ICL proposed the ISDR-ICLSendai Partnerships 2015-2025 for Global Promotion of Understanding and Reducing Landslide Disaster Risk. It was officially accepted in 2015 at the 3rd United Nations World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction in Sendai, Japan. ICL members are expected to contribute to this partnerships as an activity of the UN International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (ISDR).

ICL Members have the rights to participate and vote in the Board of Representatives of ICL which has full power for the management of the affairs of the consortium and also to participate and vote in the IPL Global Promotion Committee as voting members. They have the right to propose a project for the International Programme on Landslides (IPL) in the annual meeting IPL Global Promotion Committee, and receive 1-5 hard copies of the journal and 1-3 access rights to the web version of the journal with Token. They can apply for the World Centre of Excellence on Landslide Risk Reduction (WCoE) to be identified at the Triennial World Landslide Forum

1. ICL Membership annual dues are based on the categories of the Gross national income per capita (GNI/Capita) in USD of each country by World Bank; High income (5000/3000), Upper middle income (2000), Lower middle income (1000), and Low income (500).

Those member organizations wishing to reduce the membership fee from the regular membership fee category are requested to inform the ICL Secretariat.

Participation of ICL Board members with voting rights to BOR is critically important for the planning and management of all ICL and IPL matters. Travel support fund will be shared to all board members who need it and send the application form by the deadline.

Travel support to those member organizations with reduced membership fee may be reduced by the appropriate amount.

All Board members of category of 3000 USD and 5000 USD are listed in the Editorial Board (A4-A6 pages) of Journal Landslides.

All ICL members are invited to contribute their activity reports, news of their meetings and short reports of recent landslides (1-2 pages) to ICL/IPL Activities and News of Journal Landslides.
