Upcoming assignment due dates:

  1. Definitions and examples of form and meaning of poetry terms are due Mon., 4/23.
  2. An analysis of a poem and song lyric is due Fri., 4/27.
  3. Rough drafts of three poem assignments from the packet are due Wed., 5/2.

Mon., 4/16

  1. No class due to AZ Merit testing.

Tues., 4/17

  1. Students will finish their paraphrase and summary of Sir Walter Scott’s “Lochinvar.”
  2. Students will examine a poem analysis of “Welcome Morning.” Then students will break into their groups and complete an analysis of “20th Century Survivors” or “You Understand the Requirements.”
  3. Definitions and examples of form and meaning of poetry terms are due Thursday, 4/19.

Wed., 4/18

  1. No class due to the A day schedule.

Thurs., 4/19

  1. Groups will share their analyses of “20th Century Survivors,” or “You Understand the Requirements.”
  2. Students will then work on the assignment due Monday: definitions and examples of form and meaning of poetry terms.
  3. Once you finish today’s the definitions and examples of form and meaning of poetry terms, find a poem and/or song lyric to analyze OR begin writing poems from the packet.

Fri., 4/20

  1. No class due to AZ Merit testing.

Mon., 4/23

  1. Students will analyze the sound, language, form, and meaning of two song lyrics: “Language” by Suzanne Vega and “Almost Sleeping” by Laika.
  2. Students will then work on the assignment due today: definitions and examples of form and meaning of poetry terms.
  3. Once you finish today’s the definitions and examples of form and meaning of poetry terms, find a poem and/or song lyric to analyze OR begin writing poems from the packet.

Tues., 4/24

  1. Students will work on their poem and song lyric analyses, which are due Friday of this week.

Wed., 4/25

  1. No class due to the C day schedule. If this changes, students can work on their poem/song lyric analyses or on writing their own poems.

Thurs., 4/26

  1. Students will work on their poem/song lyric analyses or on writing their own poems.
  2. An analysis of a poem and of a song lyric (all on one document) is due tomorrow.

Fri., 4/27

  1. An analysis of a poem and of a song lyric (all on one document) is due today; please submit a hard copy or electronic document TODAY.
  2. Students will work on writing poems. Rough drafts of three poem assignments are due next Wed., 5/2.
