IAREES ANNUAL CONFERENCE

Location: The IAREES annual conference is taking place at Magee College in Londonderry, a campus of the University of Ulster.

Programme: This year, for the first time, the conference is taking place in Magee College. It will coincide with an international conference on the Soviet writer, Andrei Platonov, also organised by our Vice-President Ayleen Teskey. Joint sessions with the Platonovists will be held on Saturday morning and, exceptionally, a joint conference dinner (together with participants of the Platonov conference) will take place on Friday evening in Magee College at 8.00pm.

The Platonov conference begins on Thursday, 16 May, 2002 and a preferential rate has been set to encourage members to attend and hear other distinguished specialists in the field of early Soviet literature.

Accommodation and costs: There is a choice of accommodation which will be either a Guest House costing between £25-£35 per night for B&B or a hotel costing £60 per night.

Travel: Participants from America or Britain are likely to come via London (Heathrow). It is possible to get cheap flights from London (Stansted) to City of Derry Airport for approx £35 return with RyanAir. Alternatively, fly to Belfast International or Belfast City Airport. There is either a train or bus to Londonderry from either of these destinations. The other possibility is to fly to Dublin and take the bus to Londonderry.
