Ian Crerar Locks Up 2015 GT Championship in CTCC with Podium Finish in Round 10 in Infinity-Tuned ClearWater Design Porsche 996!

HAWTHORNE, CA—Holding a decisive points lead going into the final three rounds of the Canadian Touring Car Championship at GP Trois-Rivieres, Ian Crerar looked to finish strong and buffer his points lead in advance of the final round in August at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park. Despite challenges leading up to and during Round 9 of competition, Crerar was able to complete both races and grab the runner-up podium spot at the conclusion of Round 10, securing the 2015 CTCC GT Championship in his AEM Infinity-tuned ClearWater Design Porsche 996.

“It’s been a rewarding and challenging season,” commented Crerar. “About mid-season we began having issues with the factory ECU, and knew if it wasn’t addressed our points lead would evaporate. We chose the AEM Plug & Play Infinity for our 996 because it didn’t require us to rewire the car, and works with all the factory sensors and vehicle systems including drive-by-wire and VarioCam Plus. It literally plugged right in, and included a base map that made more power before we even modified it.”

Going into Round 9 the team replaced the transmission, twice, and still battled a “phantom growl” as they loaded the trailer for the trek to Trios-Rivieres. During practice, a massive flat spot ended the session short and limited qualifying time placed Ian at the back of the pack for the start. In the final 3rd of the race Ian was T-boned and spun but amazingly nothing cracked, no fluids were expelled and he was able to press on. Then, on the final lap the car developed a flat tire, forcing Crerar to limp across the finish line but far enough ahead to collect the points needed to maintain his championship run. Round 10 was uneventful by comparison, with Crerar securing the 2nd spot on the podium.

“I have a Rally Racing background, and in rally when you face challenges the old saying is ‘press on regardless,’ which is what we did,” stated Crerar. “I’m proud of what we accomplished this season and this weekend and to be able to share this championship with our sponsors.”

The Infinity ECU makes state-of-the-art ECU technology affordable for both professional teams and amateur racers. Built around a latest-generation 32 bit floating point 200MHz automotive processor and Real Time Operating System (RTOS), the Infinity is capable of processing 400 MIPS (millions of instructions per second). To our knowledge, the Infinity ECU currently has the fastest processing speed of any aftermarket Motorsports ECU available. This processing speed combined with a RTOS provides more accurate ignition timing for increased power, more responsiveness to truly custom tailor the driving experience to the driver, allows the Infinity to perform more computational features without a sacrifice in processing performance, and enables tuning of features and sub strategies without affecting other features and sub strategies. It allows you to do more, faster, in a more stable programming environment.
