IADEA presents India’s First Art and Design Educators’ Conference: Create Change!
This unique conference to be held in Mumbai will be open to art educators at both school and college levels will feature an eclectic programme with renowned artists and arts educators.
In a first-of-its-kind conference in India, the Indian Art and Design Educators Association (IADEA) brings you ’Create Change’ – a creativity conference especially designed to meet the needs of modern education curricula that place high emphasis on creativity and innovation. Scheduled to take place at the Piramal Art Museum, Lower Parel - Mumbai, on the 15th and 16th of February, 2018, is open to anyone who teaches art including art teachers at school and college levels, art teachers working outside the school system, and academic coordinators or school management interested in bringing creativity into their schools.
The conference will also feature speaker sessions multiple hands-on workshops and skill enhancement sessions, ready-to-apply curriculum, lesson plans and worksheets, and teaching arts award presentations. Speakers include renowned figures from the art world, including Nilanjana Nandi - Artist, Art Educator; Harry Hancock - Portrait Painter and Performance Artist, Art Educator; Ashvin Rajagopalan - Director, Piramal Art Foundation; Maya Thiagarajan - Educator and Author; Vidya Shivadas - Director, Foundation for Indian Contemporary Art; and Gita Wolf - Publisher, Tara Books, among others.
In recognition of some of the extraordinary work that educators are doing across India, IADEA will present “The Art Teacher Excellence Awards” to 10 educators. The conference is organised by IADEA, a non-profit initiative by RainbowFish Educational Trust, with the intention to provide support, direction and advocacy for quality Visual Arts Education across India. To that aim IADEA will conduct smaller regional workshops, send out a monthly newsletter and create an online platform for Art Teachers to showcase their student activities.

The two-day conference is open to a variety of art educators from across the country. Delegates can expect to:

The Art Teacher Excellence Awards - Criteria
In recognition of some of the extraordinary work that educators are doing across India, IADEA will present “The Art Teacher Excellence Awards” to 10 educators. These awards support specific projects and initiatives in the field of visual arts. The awards will be based on the below criteria:
- Most innovative concepts
- Promoting process in the Art Room
- Instilling creative confidence in students
- Best teaching techniques
- Most effective use of Elements of Art (line, colour, value etc)
- Projects that encourage collaboration
Please submit your student’s art projects with the following information:
1. Name of the project
2. Project brief description
3. Inspiration (artist, art history, mythology, nature etc)
4. Medium used
5. Student grade or class
Please label each student workimage submitted with Name of the project, Medium and Student Grade.

About Sara Vetteth
Sara Vetteth is the founder of IADEA. She earned her Masters degree in Design and Technology from Parsons school of design New York, has been an artist in residence in the Bauhaus in Germany and has authored several books as part of the Art for Kids series. She is the CEO of RainbowFish Studio program for Visual Arts Education in Schools across the country.
