Dear Parents,

I like to acknowledge each child’s birthday WITHOUT a sugary treat. In the beginning of the year we will be learning about healthy foods and how important these foods are to our bodies. Birthday treats shared in the classroom should be healthy treats!

If you choose to send a healthy food treat for your child’s birthday, please be sure it is individually wrapped or portioned. The snack should be ready to distribute!

Examples of healthy foods are fresh fruits, fresh vegetables, string cheese, or yogurt. Please send the food with your child the morning of his/her birthday or bring the food to the office.

If you would rather avoid the hassle of sending a food treat I have two recommendations for easy alternatives.

1.  You could send a book to add to our classroom library in honor of your child.

2.  Your child can bring their favorite book from home to be read as our read aloud book for the day.

Thanks for your cooperation in following these guidelines to ensure that ALL of our children are able to enjoy birthdays in the classroom.
