I Know These Words! Chart and Story

Standards:

Proves vocabulary growth

Uses correct grammar, punctuation, and capitalization

Uses correct spelling in written work

Speaks clearly with appropriate voice during oral presentation

Task:

Look at the following list of vocabulary words and honestly decide if you can define the word at the far left, if you have seen or heard the word in the past, or if you don’t know it at all. Put a checkmark in the box that best applies to you. You will see this same list many more times throughout the trimester and hopefully each time you will be able to define more words!

After you have checked off all of the appropriate boxes, look at the words that you said you can define. Create a short story using these words. Make sure that your story makes sense and that you use the vocabulary words correctlyin the sentences. If you can’t use the word correctly, move your checkmark from the “I can define it” box to the “I have seen/heard it” box. Don’t forget to use correct grammar, punctuation, capitalization, and spelling in your writing and prepare to present your story to the class!
