The word repent in this passage cannot mean turn from sin, because no one can perfectly turn from sin in order to be forgiven of sins. Even if one could stop sinning, that does not justify being forgiven of the sins you have committed in the past. Forgiveness of sins unto eternal life requires believing in Jesus for all sins committed, past, present and future because that's what He paid for on the cross, once for all time for all mankind, (Jn 3:16)!
