1.  This competition is open to all composers.

2. All decisions of the HCO shall be binding and final.

3. Copyright and intellectual property rights shall remain with the composer.

4. The composition should be able to be performed by a standard Chamber Orchestra comprising up to; two flutes, two oboes, two clarinets, two bassoons, two horns and strings in five parts. The standard woodwind ‘doublings’ of 2nd flute/piccolo and 2nd oboe/cor anglais will be accepted.

5. The composition should not be longer than approximately 10 minutes in duration. If there are multiple movements the total playing time should not exceed 10 minutes.

6. The composer shall supply a printed score for review by the HCO by the publicised closing date. As the scores are reviewed ‘blind’ by the selecting panel the score should not contain anything that will identify the composer’s name.

7. If accepted for the Workshop day the composer shall supply a set of printed parts as requested by the HCO at least six weeks prior to the Workshop.

8. All scores and parts will be returned to the composer at the end of the Workshop day.

9. If the composition is accepted for public performance in a scheduled HCO concert the composer shall provide a score and parts as requested at least eight weeks prior to the performance. The composer shall also provide programme notes and a brief biography at the same time.

10. The HCO retains the right to publicise the competition, workshop and performances including the names of participating composers.
