JESUS CHRIST

OUR SUNDAY SCHOOL FORMAT THIS YEAR:

  1. Grade/Age Classroom Time: Traditional classes will meet with their teachers twice a month.
  2. Large Group Gatherings: Once a month, students will meet in a large group setting, which will include a special teaching and a craft project.
  3. Family Worship: Once a month, when the Praise Band is scheduled (Usually the 4th Sunday of the month), parents and students are invited to worship together. The worship service will be geared toward families, and will involve children in the worship experience. Students and parents are encouraged to assist in worship (ie. Ushers, Greeters, Acolytes, Readers, Communion Servers, etc.) No Sunday School class time will occur on these Sundays, and no music time.
  4. Memory Work: Age appropriate memory work has been assigned to each grade level. Parents are asked to work with their child to accomplish this task. When the student has successfully completed the memory work, parents are asked to sign the “Memorized” form and return it to the teacher.

Age appropriate “Sparks” Bibles, will be given to the 3rd grade class at the beginning of Sunday school so they can use them during class.

There will be no Sunday School on the following dates:

Standard of Behavior/Discipline

Discipline is based upon respect for others and respect for property.

Parents are encouraged to help their children understand the basic rules of behavior for Sunday School.

If there is a behavioral problem the staff will make every effort to solve the problem in a positive and constructive way.

Discipline Guidelines

Steps to be taken when a behavioral problem arises

  1. Verbal warning by the teacher
  2. Parents will be notified by written notice
  3. Parents will be asked to sit in on the class

Should there be any damage to materials, equipment, or property the student(s) involved (along with their parents) will be responsible for repair or replacement of the damaged items.

Registration: The parent(s) or guardian(s) of each student need to fill out or update an enrollment form.

Attendance: Regular attendance is very important for a student’s Christian growth. Enthusiasm is enhanced for students and teachers if the entire class attends regularly.

Offering: Weekly Sunday School offering is designated to Americans Helping Americans. We have offering envelopes for each student.

MEMORY WORK

A special joy in raising children is helping them grow in faith. Not every child learns in the same way, so we count on parents to help their children become successful in memorizing key teachings of faith. Pastor and teachers are always available to help you in this effort. “Memorized” forms are available to inform your child’s teacher of their progress.

Following is the memory work for each grade:

Toddler:Table Prayer

Prek-K: Psalm 118-:24 & the Lord’s Prayer

1st and 2nd Grade

Lord’s Prayer who do not know it.

The 10 Commandments

3rd and 4th grade

Books of the Bible

5th and 6th Grade

Apostles’ Creed

Nicene Creed

PARENTS AS PARTNERS

Even with a special staff of dedicated teachers and leaders, the time spent with students in Sunday School is minimal.

Parents are the BEST TEACHERS! So, it is important that parents are actively involved in their child’s Christian education by:

  1. Prayer support for pastor, teachers and students.
  2. Making Sunday School a priority for children.
  3. Talking with children at home about Sunday School.
  4. Supervising home Bible reading and teaching the assigned memory work.
  5. Having family devotions.
  6. Teaching the importance of “giving” by remembering the weekly Sunday School offering.
  7. Becoming a part of our Sunday School

All this will reinforce our efforts, and your actions will say,“Sunday School is important”
