Event Description

The goal of the Summer Walking Works health improvement challenge is to encourage associates to get active and promote the rewards of walking as an ongoing exercise. Associates will be encouraged to walk 30 minutes a day and record their times on a walking log that will be provided to them.

Duration

This 12 week program will kick off onJune 14, 2004 and end September 3, 2004.

The challenge will appear on Today@AH on Monday, June 14. Associates will sign-up on the I-Way via an online form. They will also be encouraged to sign a walking contract. The responses will go to the Wellness mailbox. Every two weeks, the associates will receive articles about the benefits of walking.

Logging Time

Associates must log the distance walked on an Excel spreadsheet, and forward it to the Wellness mailbox at the end of every fourth week. (A PDF file will be available for those who do not have internet access.) Geneva will forward a reminder to all of the participants.

Because the participants are tracking time, not the number of steps, the text on the I-Way will include a conversion of steps – distant – time.

The associates will be divided into the following categories:

  • Gold = 30 minutes a day for 5 daysor600 or more minutes at the end of 4 weeks
  • Silver = 30 minutes a day for 3 days or 360 - 599 minutes at the end of 4 weeks
  • Bronze = 30 minutes a day for 2 daysor 240 – 359 minutes at the end of 4 weeks

Incentives

  • Pedometers will be given to the first 500 associates who register.
  • Every four weeks, there will be a drawing. One person from each category (gold, silver, bronze) will have an opportunity to win a gift certificate to a sporting good store.

Gold = $25 gift certificate

Silver = $20 gift certificate

Bronze = $15 gift certificate

  • At the conclusion of the challenge, one associate will receive the platinum prize - $100 gift certificate to a sporting goods store.
