Content:

Seventh grade math is broken into the following 5 content areas:

  • The Number System
  • Expressions and Equations
  • Functions
  • Geometry
  • Statistics & Probability

We will focus on these 5 areas throughout the school year.

Textbook:

The textbook we are using this year is Big Ideas Math. You will receive a textbook and workbook for the year. These can both be accessed online at as well as many other resources. To access these resources, go to the website and select the student tab. Your username is ocms7 and your password is eagles.

IXL:

Throughout the school year we will be going to the computer lab and utilizing IXL.com. IXL is a program that approaches each math concept from all angles, offering visual representations, word problems, interactive activities, and more. You will be assigned an individual username and password for this.

Grades:

Grades will be composed of three main areas: Tests, Quizzes, and Work (classwork/homework).

Tests:

Different types of test assessments will be given throughout the year and will include but are not limited to the following: Chapter Tests, Open Responses, and IXL Common Assessments. Tests will always be announced ahead of time.

Quizzes:
Quizzes will be given each time I feel a need to check for understanding. They may or may not be announced. Sometimes they may be a selection of problems from a work assignment.

Work:

Work (classwork and homework) will be

collected for a grade each time it is assigned. They can include in-class practice, activities, writing, as well as out of class assignments. Late work will receive partial credit based on the number of days late.

Attendance:

For absences, you will have one extra

day for each day absent to get your work made up and turned in. It is your responsibility to find out what you missed and turn it in the very next day. Failure to do so will result in a zero for that grade. It is essential that you have your work completed on time to be successful in this class. Math builds on itself, because each concept is a prerequisite for the next.

VIDEO PERMISSION FORM

Teachers will supplement instruction occasionally with videos or movies. The district policy states that we cannot show anything that is rated above “G” without parent permission. This excludes many videos and limits our choice. Teachers will use their discretion in choosing appropriate videos or video clips with “PG” rating. To keep us from sending home a video permission each time we choose to watch a video with a rating other than G, we would like to obtain your permission for the entire year. Please sign and return this form to your student’s math teacher indicating whether or not we have your permission to show these videos.
