Clinical placements:

Respiratory ward, University Hospital of North Tees (7 weeks) Assisted in basic care, hygiene, wound management, risk assessments, nursing documentation, medicines management. Observed chest drain insertion. Carried out observations of BP, HR, respiratory rate, oxygen saturations.

District nursing team, Phoenix Centre, Hartlepool (3 weeks) Assisted in wound care, medicines management and social needs to patients within their own home and nursing/residential homes. Carried out pressure sore assessments.

Middleton Hall Nursing Home, Middleton St George (1 week) Provided care to patients suffering with Dementia, Motor Neurons Disease and MS. Helped with daily hygiene needs, dressing and feeding those patients who were unable to feed themselves.

Learning Disability Community team, Darlington (2 weeks) Conducted home visits to carry out health checks and provided support and advice. I spent time with organisations that carried out group activities such as day’s out, baking and sports activities.

Community team for older people, Lustrum Vale Stockton-On-Tees (2 weeks) Conducted home visits to patients suffering from Dementia. Carried out memory tasks, assessments and helped provide support and advice to patients and families.

Leven Unit, University Hospital of North Tees (2 week’s elective) Provided care and support to patients undergone minor surgical procedures, including wound management, medication management and physical observations.

Teesside Sexual Health team, Stockton-On-Tees (2 week’s elective) Observed patients receiving advice regarding contraception and sexual health. Assisted in coil removal/insertion and implant. Observed HIV assessments.

ITU/HDU University Hospital of North Tees (8 weeks) Provided care and support to patients and families within the intensive care unit. Many patients were ventilated so I was involved in providing hygiene and basic care, wound management, medication management and physical observations. Carried out risk assessments and nursing documentation.

Community Midwifery team, Stockton-On-Tees (1 day) Observed mother and baby clinic, pelvic sweep, physical observations such as blood pressure, heart rate and Doppler assessment.

Denmark Street Doctors Surgery, Darlington (2 weeks) Observed diabetes clinic, respiratory clinic and nurse practitioner examine patients.

Darlington Health Visiting Team, Dr Piper house (2 weeks) Conducted home visits and helped carry out clinical assessments on newly born to toddler age group. Help provide support to families by offering advice regarding breast feeding and weening. Spent time with breast feeding clinic.

Surgical Observation Unit, University Hospital of North Tees (8 weeks) Provided care and support to patients undergone surgical procedures, including wound management, medication management and physical observations. Spent time with drug and alcohol team and in theatres to oversee surgical procedures. Carried out risk assessments and documentation.

Gynaecology ward, Darlington Memorial Hospital (2 week’s elective) Provided care to female patients after undergoing medical procedures. Supported patients who had experienced ectopic pregnancy, miscarriage and abortions.

Cardiology Day Unit, University Hospital of North Tees (2 weeks elective) Providing care to patients and observing patients after cardiology procedures such as TOE’s, Hickman line insertion and cardioversion. Carried out pre-op assessments (ECG’s, BP, etc.)

Modern Matrons, Darlington Memorial Hospital (2 weeks)

Service improvement placement, working with the Emergency Department: providing care to children and adults who visited department. Also worked alongside patient flow to establish how bed spaces are supervised.

Caring Experience

2015- present NHS Professionals Care Assistant

Undertake general care duties such as assisting with hygiene, elimination, nutrition and fluid balance, risk assessments, moving and handling and NEW scores (recognising deterioration in patients). Working weekend and day shifts on several wards including cardiology day unit, elderly care ward and short stay ward. Working alongside a team of multi-disciplinary professionals.

Other Experience

2007-2013 Worked as a self-employed mobile beauty therapist before opening my own beauty salon in 2008. Supervised staff, provided treatments, book keeping accounts in a busy salon.

Personal Interests

I enjoying cooking and baking from a wide range of cuisines. I like to keep active and hold a gym membership. I enjoy social activities such as bowling and coffee mornings. I regularly donate to charities and hold annual coffee mornings for Macmillan cancer research. I also enjoy travelling and spending time with my family. I enjoy organising social functions such as Christmas parties, birthdays and I am currently in talks regarding the organisation of my nursing cohort’s graduation ceremony.
