General:

I am a 56yr old woman living with Early Onset Alzheimer’s, I am supported by my civil partner Yael, but am now in need of extra help, both to support my independence and to free some time for Yael.

I need a PA to help me with household duties, cooking & cleaning gardening, as well as some personal care. I would like some companionship at home, as well as encouragement to engage in social activities such as art exhibitions, swimming, walking, shopping etc and accessing the community.

I do get tired, and so would prefer to be driven, but I’m happy to take public transport if necessary.

You must be able to respect my privacy (and that of my friends, partner& family) and have a confidential, professional approach.

Hours of work:

Up to 9hrs per week, flexible hours/days.

Rates of Pay:

£10.00 per hour.

Supervision:

As my PA you will be directed by me and/or Yael and to Yael inall other aspects of your work. You should always ask me or Yael what my needs are and listen to instruction or requests.

Main duties

Social

To be companionable in social and leisure pursuits to include:
exhibitions, art shows & galleries, cinema live performance, city & country walks

and

listening to radio and audio books, reading out loud, watching TV, practising relaxation meditation, gentle exercise, swimming.

Domestic

As a PA you will be expected to do, and involve me wherever possible in a number of household tasks which include:

tidying, organising, housework, cooking, cleaning, ironing, shopping, gardening.

Personal Care

You will be expected to help me with personal care as needed, this would include toileting, showering, dressing and undressing as required.

Finally, it is part of your duties to assist me in a manner which enables me to carry out any chosen activity whether inside or outside my home, by carrying out any other requests which I may reasonably make.

Note:

I will require you to have an enhanced DBS check, and supply references subject to being offered the job.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Punctuality:Arrive at the scheduled time, ready to start work. Let me know if you are going to be more than 10 minutes late.
  • Confidentiality: I will need you to respect my privacy. Many problems can arise from casual conversation about the care and assistance that you give. Maintain a professional approach at all times.
  • Good Attitude: appreciate the strains and stresses involved for me and the effect this can have on the acceptance of your help.You should respect the possessions and equipment in my home. Use of the telephone, heating, television, radio etc. are at my discretion.
  • Training: Training will be available in certain key areas. You should be prepared to attend any relevant training sessions, read any training literature provided and follow procedures.

It is the job of the Personal Assistant to assist their employer in all areas of personal care and social support, and to act as a confidential escort, assistant and companion in the person’s social and day-to-day activities. By providing help at the right time the disabled person is enabled to lead an individual and independent lifestyle in the community.

The Personal Assistant should always ask what their employer’s needs or wishes are and listen to the requests and directions. The Personal Assistant should have the physical skills of lifting, pushing and bending. One does not have to be a strong person physically to do the job, but general good health and fitness are considered to be an advantage.

Acknowledgement and respect of the following qualities in the employer is equally important: physical aspects, intellectual, sexual, cultural, educational, and social aspects.

Note: - All needs will vary from day to day and duties will alter accordingly, so the Personal Assistant needs to be able to be flexible with his/her time.
