March 7, 2016 - Hyundai Motor Company and video game publisher and distributor Bigben Interactive announces a major partnership for the eSports WRC Championship, a global tournament using ‘WRC 5’, the official FIA World Rally Championship (WRC) video game.

Hyundai Motor Company will support Bigben Interactive in promoting eSports WRC Championship, by offering a premium Hyundai i20 to the winner of the global tournament at WRC Wales Rally GB this October.

“We are very excited to expand our involvement in motorsports through the gaming industry,” said Scott Noh, Director of Hyundai’s Overseas Marketing Group. “Our partnership with Bigben will provide a platform where people can experience the excitement and joy of rallying. We expect the tournament to definitely add another fun element in online racing competition. We wish good luck to all of the contestants and look forward to who will win the grand prize,” added Noh.

After a long and exciting year of qualifications, the best 18 drivers will fight for the title during an on-site final at Wales Rally GB from October 27 to October 30, 2016. As well as becoming the first eSports WRC Champion, the winner will take home an incredible prize of a Hyundai i20 car.

“We are very proud to partner with Hyundai Motor for our eSports WRC,” said Benoît Clerc, Head of Software at Bigben Interactive. “eSports WRC is a big challenge for us as creating a virtual tournament which runs simultaneously to the calendar of an official FIA competition is something never seen in the gaming industry. As an innovative company, Hyundai Motor will support us by providing a marvellous prize for the winner of the most exciting online racing competition,” added Clerc.

The battle for the eSports world title brings the best ‘WRC 5’ video game drivers together for a tournament which started at Rallye Monte-Carlo in January and ends in Wales. Each round takes place in parallel to a real-life WRC round, putting players in the boots of WRC stars like Thierry Neuville, Dani Sordo and Hayden Paddon as they feel the excitement and the pressure of fighting for vital tenths of a second in difficult and challenging conditions.
